i am removing this post as i was looking for help and all i seem to have recieved with the exception of a few nice people here is abuse.
i would like to add that he was threatening in the way he came over and acted actually leaning over the shelves into my partner.
in repsonce to Fowondert that is exactly what happened hence the reason i am livid about it and that the entire thing was caught on the stores cctv.
as for people saying it is bad manners to have a bottled drink in stores what a lot of nonsense - there were no signs, it was a scorching hot day and the lid was firmly on.
thank you though maninthestreet that was the info i was hoping to get. my main point in this whole thing was that should a customer chose to act in this way the manager would no doubt have called the police as there is lot of protection in place for workers these days (as there should be) and that customers are owed the same duty of care.
yes, battles are worth chosing but i dont see why people think that this type of behaviour is something that shoud be tolerated.

Hmm, report him to the police? I think that's a little out of perspective. You can't go running to the police just because someone called you 'an effing something'. Bad things happen in life - sometimes people are rude, shockingly so. But you need a thicker skin if you think the police are there to soothe your sensitivities.

So, have they replied to your letter? It's not clear if this is a letter you originally sent, or one you've sent since they advised they're investigating.

TBH, I doubt it will make much difference to my response... you need to move on. Your fella got insulted in HMV. Shit happens. Stop shopping there.

If you've complained to customer services or the regional manager and they're investigating it then I don't really see that there's a great deal more than you can do. I'll grant you that shop managers shouldn't be giving verbal abuse to customers but that said it wasn't a physical assault.

Annoying and out of order but c'est la vie. :)

I may be missing something, but where was the threat? I see the abusive language, but no threat at all.

Also, telling HMV how much they lost on that occasion isn't really going to make much difference to them, as they would have made at MOST £30 off of everything you mentioned, but probably considerably less.

Is it considered good manners nowadays to not only go into a store drinking but to place the bottle on the fixtures? I wouldn't dream of doing such a thing.

Whilst there is no need for rudeness, I feel you are over dramatising the situation. There are more important things in life, you've complained now move on.

You have done the right thing in sending a letter to HMV so not much else you can do. Best thing you can do is just forget about it and move on and dont shop there anymore.Yes he was shouted at but hes still alive isnt he so no injuries.

Assuming the OP's version of events is accurate, the store manager breached section 5 of the Public Order Act - words, actions or behaviour that caused someone else alarm or distress.

My Local HMV has a sign that reads

'Food and drink may not be consumed in store'

In fact loads of shops have them

However, now they are telling me that they will investigate it internally and that they will not tell me the outcome.

They won't tell you because it's non of your business what disciplinary action they take against the store manager that it between the company and him,

I also don't believe for a second a store manager called your partner that just because he placed a drink on a shelf, something else either occured just before or it didn't happen and like the manager said he was misheard.

People leave all sorts on my fixtures. On saturday, someone left a full cup of Starbucks beverage on my radios fixture. I picked it up and whisked it to a bin. There were too many people around to ask who left it there, and tbh, they shouldn't be putting drinks near electrical equipment anyway.

It's not as bad as those who leave empty wrappers and half eaten sandwiches in my shop. Bunch of savages in my town.
  • I got as far as the bit where he was drinking Pepsi in a shop.

Whatever it is, you deserved it.
