and don't forget the tapey stuff that seals the threads of the connector......it's white, thin stuff that you wrap around and around.... it ensures that there are no little leaks.

***that's the best girly advice I have, probably get shouted at now from some angry Gas Fitters***

The tape you are referring to is PTFE tape! - Polytetrafluoroethylene,
or as some plumbers call it - plastic tape for everything!

    Gaz

    What I actually said was:

When we moved house I disconnected both appliances and re-installed them at our new home, which had 2 of the same fittings, without any help from a CORGI man

Non CORGI registered should not be using PTFE as his obviously invloves fitting pipework, and therefore illegal.
There are also 2 types of PTFE, the ordinary thin type for nearly everthing and a thicker GAS PTFE for gas!, it has a different make up to the thin stuff which should not be used for gas (the thin stuff that is)

Well you live and learn don't you?

My dad bought me a second hand cooker when I got my first house, I fitted it myself because when you're young and skint you're not going to pay someone to come out and plug a plug in and push a hose into a connector...are you?

I did it, it worked and I hadn't got a clue that it was illegal.

    p.s. Gaz......... :p;)

And remember there are at least 2 grades of PTFE tape
so it will say on it if it can be used for gas connections.

The base grade can only be used for water (general plumbing) connections. :)

Im really struggling on this! I cant get the fitting to budge - both the connector going into the cooker and the one that fits the main are solid!

    Any ideas???
