At least the baby milk is fairly green on the emissions.

My gf will know this but how long is it roughly until babies go onto the other types of SMA milk? I see they do offers on all except the new born gold one, poxy government!

    Hi,
From what I believe, sma gold and sma white are for babies under 6 months, and these are the ones that are not allowed to have promos on-the ones that have offers on are usually the follow on milks that are only suitable from 6 months-I might be wrong, but that is my understanding, and from previous experience with my 2 older boys!

Approx 6 months for some follow on milks (I think SMA is 6months), 1 year for others and HV's are all seem to discourage follow on milk as a fad, but I tend to ignore them.

Feel lucky LO isn't on comfort Milk it's £9.99:( a tub.

    Nappies:
Have you thought about using real nappies (reusable)- some councils do offers on them, or you could borrow/get some cheaply second hand. Even with washing them they still work out cheaper than sposies and then you still have them should you be brave enough to have another!!!
Failing that then I found Boots, Tesco and Lidl nappies to be as good as Pampers (we used them occasionally)....often they have offers on!
    Milk:
DS was breastfed baby but definately shop around....don't buy anything in bulk though before knowing bubs will take to it......for some babies just don't do so well (wind etc) with certain milks....afraid (from what I have heard) it can be trial and error with these things. Not so many official offers on milk for under 6 months as others have said.
    Wipes etc:
Use old cloths as much as possible at home, again look for offers on wipes.
    Clubs:
Join the Boots parenting club, and any other supermarket club schemes- you will get extra points and offers. Also watch out as some of the bigger supermarkets do 'baby events'- basically offers on all baby stuff for certain times!
    Clothes:
e-bay, charity shops (I was amazed at the amount of practically new stuff donated!!!), when they are wee they don't need too much fancy stuff!!
    Toys/books:
See if any toy libraries in your area, again watch out for special offers etc.
Benefits: pretty much been said already lol!
Best of luck with it all!

Apply for tax credits, they will make the calculation based on you and your partner's earnings in the last tax year.

When you get the award notice through ring them back and register a change of circumstances - this being that your partner is now on maternity leave. Calculate how much she will earn this tax year when her maternity leave ends (if she is going back to work). Do not include her maternity pay up to that point in your figure. Her maternity pay will be disregarded as income for the coming tax year so they will send you a new award notice out which should be for a higher tax credit payment.

This new award notice may put you in the eligibility bracket for the Sure Start maternity grant. You have 3 months from the birth of your child to apply for this, so as soon as you get the new updated award notice from tax credits apply for the sure start grant straight away.
