This thread has really inspired me to push myself to do more.
I was 24 on Monday and I feel I have achieved nothing. I went to Uni but the course wasn't for me and since then I have been working in sales. Me and my Fianc! have a house and 2 cars and about 5k in debt not including mortgage and car finance. Actually reading that back I suppose with a fianc! and a house I cant say I have achieved nothing however I feel like we could be in a much better situation. As it stands im earning 17.5 basic and then comms on top whilst my fianc! is in university doing a PGCE. I wish I could support her better so she finds it easier but im struggling to find extra ways to make cash.
Having read through this thread I feel I need to get a trade to get out of the god awful industry that is sales. I am going to start by doing some general DIY course at the DIY school and see how I get on. Then if I feel its for me maybe go for a qualification once my partner finishes university. Then off I go to make my Million.
Thanks everyone for giving me new self beliefCurrent Debts

No ideas, although im sure some will suggest using it for a deposit on property maybe?
Well done on wanting to use the Inheritance for some good.
I Inherited a big lump sum of £23,000 but the deaths and circumstances surrounding it knocked me for six, i resented the Money, and silly people who commented how LUCKY i was to have it....i blew the lot on nothing! For me it wasn't "happy" money.
If i had the choice to do it all again though, personally i would invest it in myself, retraining, college coursesBuild your own dreams ~ or someone will hire you to help build theirs

Hello and good luck to all the newbies. Nice to see how many of us there are now.
I will be watching the thread with even more interest now.
Not much to report this end at the moment.
Still plodding along....0 -

This is the problem with legacies - they feel like blood money don't they.
Re the £10K I think the idea of "investing in yourself" is a good one. Or even - it could give you some seed capital to start a business, or just a nice cushion invested in an ISA, or put towards a house deposit.
If you can't decide then just put it somewhere safe for now.0 -

House now on the market, so fingers crossed for me please.:D
Once I have released some capital I can really get started .....
In the meantime, just 5 weeks till my pension kicks in, so I have now started looking for a little job. I will no longer be in receipt of benefits so am free to do some paid work now.
I have made enquiries about a stall at a local antique fair and now have my name on the waiting list.
I've bought some bits and pieces to refurbish and upcycle to add to my stock so I feel like I am finally making some progress at last.
Is this for real?? Perhaps Cameron is right.0 -
Yes - it's what is known as a benefit trap - have you never heard of it.
You know nothing about me, nor my circumstances so I suggest you do not presume to judge.
I will not lower myself to get down in the gutter with you and slug it out.
If you are really interested I suggest you read this thread properly where you will see I have posted my circumstances in some detail.
In a nutshell my husband is severely ill, I was his carer for 6 years until I was forced to put him into a nursing home.
The State has taken every last penny from me.
I am virtually destitute. The State in their infinite wisdom has decided I am no longer entitled to the princely £67 per week they thought was the kings ransom I could live on.
I have no income whatsoever until my pension kicks in. Yes I was one of those females for whom the State decided to suddenly shift the goal posts and make me wait another 18 months before I became eligible.
This thread is peopled by those of us who are determined to better ourselves. We are supportive of each other and generous of spirit. We don't criticise each other for our mistakes, we don't make nasty spiteful vicious remarks.
My husband's illness has cost us at least £670K. Our finances are in tatters, my health is wrecked and my retirement plans are in ruins.
As I said you know nothing.
Edited to say ....
I hope for your sake you never have to find out the reality of what it means to have to throw yourself on the mercy of the State.
A very wise relative once told me "Don't put your faith in the State - when you need it most it won't be there for you". Wise words.
I am 61 and I have roughly 10 years left to rebuild my finances and prepare for my old age.
At a time of life when I should be starting to wind down a little I have to gear up and start all over again. This my dear is with a damaged back and neck sustained as a result of the 6 years I cared for my husband - all that lifting, bathing, feeding, washing him down after "accidents". Perhaps you'd like to try it before passing judgement.
I suggest that if you have nothing constructive or positive to add to this thread you take your nasty sneering snidey comments elsewhere.
Let the good folk on here, build, or in my case, rebuild, our lives in peace.1 -

No Cameron hasn't got it right - he's an incompetent fool. He hasn't got an original thought in that empty head of his.
I admit the post of PM is something of a poisoned chalice at the moment, but he simply hasn't got what it takes.
Time he stepped down.0 -
I would love to join the millionaire challenge but have absolutely no idea how or where to start! I'm on average salary, no chance of overtime, wouldn't touch party planning etc with a bargepole, no specific sellable skill set....err, perhaps I should just buy a few more lottery tickets!
Good luck to those already on their way!0 -
I'm 22, in my last year of a non qualifying Law degree from a not so great university. I have no debt (besides student debt) , 4k savings (should have 7k by April) and no idea what I want to do.
I have an anxiety disorder, so I can't deal with stress very well. I however want to feel financially safe, that is one of my main aims in life so that I can feel that I can enjoy life without that big black cloud hanging over me.
I definitely know I want to have my own business, my own thing, I don't want to work for someone else, but what? I don't know. I was hoping to figure it out now so I've got the ball rolling for when I finish uni in April.Save 12k in 2015 challenger NO.128 £0.00/£8000
