Haha. Your daughters remark reminds me of my when my eldest son started school. He came home after the first day and said “Mummy why can’t you have blonde hair and long red nails”. He was just 5.....typical male.:rotfl:
Join me on the Frump to Fab thread. I started it when I was at my lowest ebb......seriously I looked like a bag lady!!!
The ladies on there are wonderful - supportive, non judgemental, wise and very funny. They helped me through the awful years when I cared for my husband and his death. We talk about “all things female” and lots of other stuff too. The thread had been running for several years now.
Anyway well done on becoming “LuxuryWoman”.
I admit I have “champagne tastes and a lemonade budget” but I am determined to live a glamourous and adventurerous lifestyle.....
You know what they say.........”Life is short. Take the trip, buy the shoes, eat the cake”.
I add my own motto.....Do it with Style:rotfl:0 -
Ok, now you are definitely my guru and where you lead I will follow so I'll take a look at that thread.
Champagne taste, lemonade budget - yep, one day I shall reverse that saying, but I'm rather proud of my skills in getting freebies, bargains and so on and I'm certain if I make it big or win the lotto I shall be buying my yacht through a cashback site.

Haha it has really gone quiet on here lately. Maybe that time of year, sure we'll get a few new ones coming on after the New Year start....
Champagne lemonade budget sounds like me too for sure.
Life is just getting pushed together atm but I've had a few good times recently with friends and that's something I've not had for a while.
House sale *should* be going through Friday so should get the cheque Monday or Tuesday then just wait for that to be cashed, it's been non stop getting that house sorted and I'm so close now, just literally got a few bits to take out the house and mop two really small rooms after we go + go round and just check if there is anything else I can really do.
Our house has gone a bit all over the place due to us moving more stuff out, but with everything going on I just haven't got time and I'm behind with the degree so step 1 is to catch up with that and step 2 is to sort the house out complety and find a place for everything so to speak...then I'll get to sorting out what we are going to do financially about everything.
I can't say things are really easy right now on a personal level but hopefully everything finds a way of working out.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -

Not wanting to make light of your situation, and very off-topic, but this is the worst part about being able to pay bar bills on a credit card - the thought of getting a nice itemised list every month showing me just how often I buy drinks in a pub would be terrible.0 -

It really would, I was very shocked to see the list of pubs on the cc bills.
Still that's all behind me and there's no point in dwelling, he was so selfish when I had to scratch around to pay for school shoes and what have you but he's gone now and no man will ever clean me out or clip my wings again. It would drive me mad to think about that wasted 40k too often so I figure what's done is done.
It's onwards and upwards

Congrats on the grandchild to be LL.
I've been spending my 3-hour return train trips to work catching up on the thread, currently around P130 so still a couple of years to go!
Just logged on to say that I have been inspired to research Matched Betting and there are good opportunities for this in Oz and I have found a great Aussie online guide so will soon be adding some extra $ to my net worth hopefully which I shall give an update on once caught up.
I also have been thinking about my mortgage interest rate. I'm not looking forward to re-financing due to the paperwork stress. I rang my bank today to suss them out and their offer wasn't overly competitive but they did reduce my rate from 4.34% to 4.04% with no catches. The alternative was to split into two mortgages with one offset variable at that rate and one fixed for 2 years at 3.88% whilst retaining the $395 annual fee. I should be able to beat this.
Keep at it everyone0 -
New user to MSE and what an incredible thread! It has been amazing to read.0

Hi Radiocomps......welcome to MSE and this thread.
MNS. Well done on the reduced mortgage rate.....every little helps.,:rotfl: and good luck with the matched betting.
Kaya. Hope the house sale goes through ok and not too stressful. Re the personal stuff in your life well again hope things pan out the way you want them to. Hopefully once the move is over with then things will get back onto an even keel for you.
You have a lot on your plate, try not to get too stressed, find time to relax a little now and then. Maybe get a baby sitter and find time just for you and your husband to spend some time together.
It’s been hectic time for you what with new jobs, house moves, college courses etc....as well as all the usual family stuf that you have with young children. Maybe ease off the pedal and just take time out for a while.0 -
Hello everyone, sounds like we are all doing well?
I set myself a target of amassing 20k in 2017, taking my net worth to 162k before the year is up, and am there at £162.9k nw as of today. Two more paydays to go so room for improvement too. Pleased with the early result although I did see muhren ( who is a similar age and starting point to me this year) check in at £170k a couple of weeks ago, so I need to push myself a little harder in the the spirit of friendly competition it seems.
I’ve scrapped the act of physical book keeping recently after finding a free app called “net worth plus” it’s pretty basic but does the job. Does anyone know of a better (free) app? Or better suggestion on what they use to monitor finances?
It’s hard to know where I can trust to put my money each month. Everything seems a bit bubbly or over valued at the moment. I did have a fair bit in peer to peer but have scaled that back quite a bit. I don’t want money earning below the current 3% inflation rate so I can’t pile into “high” interest bank accounts. A lot of equities look high which has left me going quite heavy into emerging markets as they look better value.. but these sort of investments often come with a fair bit of risk. I did do a lot of research into buy to let and specifically into South Wales... not sure if people are familiar with developments there but there are good transport links to Bristol (a very fast growing city in terms of house prices jobs etc) while the current prices over the river are about 1/3 cheaper. the toll on the bridge is being scrapped next year. I can see prices creeping up as people look for a better deal than overpriced Bristol. I’m all for diversity and not putting all my eggs in one basket though and buying a property to rent out would involve me putting in most of my available money into one thing, which leads me back to where to put my money? What is everyone else investing in at the moment?0 -
Congras on the Grandchild LL I missed that somehow!! I'm asking my self the same question BB, plan on doing some proper research once things settle down.
Cashed the cheque for the house and everything has gone through, but still serouisly behind on the degree so it's my 100% focus for the next week or two. Got an essay due on Thursday and because it's computing it's got so many technical aspects and I'm already pulling my hair out but I have Tuesday afternoon and all day Wed + thursday morning if needed...I think I'll have it done Wed unless I get really stuck.
Main debate now is we do have a little debt including I've worked out at least £3k with tax credits...I'm just wondering whether to pay it off and save each month, or make payments per month to pay it off...bare in mind it would all be interest free, but same time it's nice to know that everything is sorted and start again so to speak...People don't know what they want until you show them.0
