Does anyone have experience in Amazon selling (FBA)? How time consuming is it? Obviously it depends on how much you sell, but do you think it can be worth it if only pursued for 6-8 hours a week?

    Thank you :)

Oh, perhaps I can try out the health magazines! I had never thought of writing tips for them. I guess I just need to contact the editor if there's no info on submitting tips for them?

That's a great idea. A lot of popular women's magazines have health pages too. Good luck.

  • Hey All,

glad to see there's some of the OPs still here and detailing their journey.

I can't remember the last time I posted, it may have been more than four years ago when I was still in the UK.

Am about to apply for Australian citizenship. It's been hard work establishing a new life and stepping forwards from the backwards financial step but getting there slowly with my new career.

Opportunities to make money here are not so easy to come by, but I guess it means you focus on the most valuable ones.

In terms of financial success, I still have a 2-bed property in the UK which will have been continually tenanted for almost 5 years in August and with the low interest rates a definite boon. I started an online retail business in Oz with a friend but that didn't pan out.

The wife and I have been saving hard for another property but may put this on the back burner as she has decided to look at becoming self-employed giving career and development advice to executives. At the moment it will be a side hustle but may need some backup money if she decides to go full time.

I will try and find my last post and read from there.

    Aaron

P.S. At an exchange rate of $1.7 to the £1 it's easier to become a millionaire ;-)

    Hi guys,

Really interesting discussions atm. Honestly had some personal problems at home and me and Hubbie spilt up but we have managed to sort things out and are staying together. There is a long story but we've come out stronger then ever and right now things have never been better.

The house sale is coming to a close, I wouldn't be suprized if contracts get signed next week but I think we are looking at less then 2 weeks minimum now. I believe our buyer's buyers are going in to sign the contracts and our side is just tying up some loose ends and I reckon we'll be asked to come in anyday now.

My job is going really well, the problem (although good for me in a way to get promoted) is no one wants to work, but I just get on with it and do what needs to be done. The supervisor was away this week on my area and I literally just got on with it and set everyone up and did everything I could do - I've not been there long enough to know everything and things went a bit rubbish when we got busy as I still had my job to do and couldn't do another job on top in that situation but overall I did what I could and they've given me a gift for helping + mention of training me for the supervisor job down the line...I've only been there 3 months and several supervisors have approached me and told me how well I'm doing + there have even been harsh words said about moving me to another area, but my supervisor is putting his foot down with me staying where I am lol...I never really planned to make a career here or stay for that long, but whilst I am here and it works for me if I could get a supervisor job in a short space of time it's a massive bonus for the CV. It's nice to be in a place where hard work does get noticed but honestly the general motto of staff is 'look busy' so you don't get asked to do extra jobs .... tbh it might work well for me to get promoted but then I have to control these people when I do lol + I really can't complain about the money side of things.

Anyway, my main focus is my degree still which because I did some overtime at work this week which I won't be doing again (don't mind an extra hour but this was 3 extra shifts) and I've not picked up my books all week and now kids are off...so major study this week whereever I can and roped Nannies into helping out but plan is to get ahead.

My main issue going through my head is we are about to have 30k dropped in the bank and I don't want it to go to my head, I don't want to go silly on spending (as with the house sale, we're going to have a fair whack left over each month as well with his now managers wage and me working , nice postion to be in) as we are already talking about all these things we want to do so it's finding a happy mediam. Being comfortable financially is great, but it also worries me that I don't want to stop aiming high and it's easy to lose sight of that.

Also problem I'm sort of thinking is as much as I am business minded, the only thing I have in-direct experience in is property...and that's great that I have that...but if I wanted to say, go run a cafe, I wouldn't have a clue where to start and I'm not really sure how I can solve that issue. Life experience is really what I need in diff area's to try and find some real money making ideas, or perhaps doing what you know is the best option... I guess we'll see what happens.

I think I'm going to start buying up some millionaire books to start with, focus on studying and reading up on their experiences in my spare time..perhaps something will come up.

I can't remember word for word but one of my fav quotes is, the dots won't connect looking forward, but looking backwards it will. Basically what we do now might not make sense, but when we look back it will..hopefully lol. Something does tell me that this photography bug won't go unwasted either despite giving it up for now.

We've had years of getting by, so time to look forward and enjoy what's to come...but without loosing sight of the bigger picture.
People don't know what they want until you show them.
  • It's very easy to sit back and watch everything fall apart when a senior person is on leave.

Kudos to you for stepping up and taking control of the situation. It obviously got noticed.

It's a different mindset being an employee to self-employed. You clearly have the self-employed/leadership mindset.

I've not posted for a while but I have been reading, I promise!

Not really had much to update other than the continued savings into pension/sharesave/ISA. My net worth has crept above £170k mark now, although I still have a lot of work I want to do on the house.

I have been having a play around on a compound interest calculator and and my current savings rate I would get to the million in 21 years time. This would take me to 55/56 years old and sounds like a nice time to stop working for the man. I don't see myself setting up my own business, it's just not in my personality. Obviously there is a lot of water to flow under the bridge in that time, but it is something to aim for.

    Hello everyone.

Great to hear from you again, Aaron.. good that Australia is working so well for you. You sound like the sort of couple who make your own opportunities and location is largely irrelevant. And, as the saying goes, We all need to bloom where we are planted. You are doing just great.

Kay. I did wonder if everything was ok on the domestic front. These are stressful times for you, Job moves, house moves, young children....it’s a lot to add into the mix. Glad things are sorted now.

And well done on picking up the slack at work.......that kind of thing will definitely get you noticed. You might not get an easy ride from your colleagues but I am sure you can rise above any pettiness from them. You have exactly the right “can do” mentality that will please your bosses and get you the rewards you deserve. And....it’s all good experience for if you do set up your own business.

Muhren.....wow you are making great progress. It is nice to see those savings mount up isn’t it.

I have finished my financial review and have switched a chunk of my extra cash into stocks and shares ISAs so starting to see better still have the full £20k in a Santander account but it’s only giving me a 1.5% return so I might rethink that one later.

Not started trading yet, DS2 had a little wobble and has lost his confidence a bit so he’s leaving it for now. I don’t mind, he will do it when he’s ready.

I haven’t done much else really. I have had a series of houseguests since my last holiday and now of course it’s the run up to Christmas followed my big trip in January so I can’t see that I will be doing anything of any great importance till next spring.

Having said that I have seen a nice property on RM which I might look at.........I would need to juggle the finances. It’s only just come on the market and I don’t really want to pay the full asking price so I will wait and see if they drop the price a bit. The market is a bit slow here anyway.

    Right better get cracking.
  • Good morning,
It's gone very quiet in here, is everyone busy making their millions?
Sorry, this is going to be a bit me, me, me but I wanted to post as a reminder of where I am now and hope to look back this time next year (God willing) to see how far I have come.

So, the business is a slow burner but we have had a couple of sales, what a steep learning curve it is and oh the hours I am working in the hope it pays off.
I was extremely fortunate to receive a windfall from an inheritance this week (3.5k) so invested a couple of hundred on things to sell and put the rest in premium bonds for now while I decide what to do, I figure it's safe there and I can forget about it for now.

Christmas shopping is almost done and I have managed to get some very cool gadgety gifts for my teen paid for with Amazon vouchers earned via Mintvine surveys and also have boxed clever with loyalty points - looking forward to the Nectar double up event which I will probably use for the Christmas champagne/wine (all for free!)

So now I'm hoping that the new stock will sell and make me some more money. I feel so lucky that I had this windfall as I needed to invest in the business anyway and this way it means I didn't have to touch my own capital. I also had to buy a new laptop, much needed but used a big whack of Tesco vouchers towards it and now I can work more efficiently.

How's everybody else doing? I really need to push myself, everyday sees me older and I want to make something of my life. Newly single with a teen who doesn't need me in the same way as when little, I have the chance to take a bit of a leap without my ex spending every damn penny ever earned and a great deal more (nearly £40k I had to pay off once he went and the true damage he caused came to light, beer mostly, unbelievable, drawing cash on his credit card 3 times a week)

    I'm in charge now!

Looking forward to hearing how you are all getting on and hoping for some further inspiration :)
  • Hello Everyone

Great catch up Luxury Woman.....I do love that name. :rotfl:

Good to see you are making progress and that you are still working towards your goals. Definitely sounds like you are better off without your Ex. And yes with you “in charge” I’m sure you’ll go far. A good role model for your teen. That little windfall will come in handy too.

Well I can’t believe how time is flying.......I am thoroughly enjoying my “gap year”. Two holidays down and just two months until that my Amazon trip. I have booked the vaccinations, went to the dentist and got some work done, have bought a Brazilain Portuguese language book to try and learn a smattering of the lingo.

I have been working on my fitness levels and am pleased to say my knee is healing well. I can walk further and faster now without having to wear a leg brace.

My really big news is that next year I shall become a grandmother. Wahoo. However, grandchild notwithstanding, after the Amazon trip I need to get back to earning some more money and get back to the Millionaire Programme.

Pleased to report that my investments are doing well so far, however DS2 seems to have lost his nerve about day trading. No worries. We can try something else if he doesn’t want to do it.

I hit my original target so now I need to revise it and set new goals.

My target was £300k which I reached but then I gave £100k to my sons. So now I want to get back up to £300k in my own right. I reckon I’m at around £180k now. Can I do £120k in 5 years. Who knows but I’m going to give it a go......

No more bucket list trips for a while.....:rotfl:

Good lord, a trip to the Amazon, a grandchild on the way (hearty congrats) and determined to get back up to 300k - Ok, you are my new guru!

The name LuxuryWoman, I'll tell you why that is my name - a year ago I was a depressed, broke, drunk frankly, seemingly trapped in a terrible, verging on abusive relationship, drinking to numb myself.
Things had to change, so, I quit wine, dumped the man, paid the debts off - this sounds easy but I lost my house and it's not easy to escape an 18 year relationship but hey, I did it.
My daughter around this time told me she wished I was a bit more like the other mums, a more 'luxury woman' meaning more glamourous, groomed, together and so on, which stung a bit but then I decided to run with it so I painted my nails, got a haircut and bought some anti-wrinkle cream :rotfl: giving up the wine put more £ in my pocket for a decent pair of shoes and hey presto - Luxury Woman was born!
