Gotcha. Well, I feel for you - all you can do, though, is work on the stuff thats under your control, and make *that* as good as you can. I'll be thinking of you.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Phew!!! and breathe.........
Karmas is right - you can only control whats In your control.
For the rest - in the words of Elsa (Frozen). Let It Go......;)..
for the sake of your sanity.
It's your wedding.Don't let anyone spoil what should be one of the happiest days of your life.
Yes it would have been a nice touch to send your grandfather a thank you note, it's just one of those olde worlde courtesies. However, I don't think he's bearing a grudge.
Like Karma says he's perhaps not feeling too well. He's probably terrified of the surgery - a bypass operation is a big deal. Perhaps he couldnt trust himself to phone you, he might have been scared that he might break down and show his fear, something that a man of his generation would find embarrassing and humiliating.
I'm sorry I don't know what MOH stands for either (mother of other half!???) so your future MIL ......anyway I think you could be right - sounds like there is some undercurrent going on. It's probably something in her life rather than anything you've done or not done.
Weddings can often be very stressful, especially in the weeks running up to the big day - lot of crossed wires and misunderstandings. And yet, more often than not, everthing usually turns out ok, and it ends up being a perfect day.
Just try to relax and not let things get on top of you. It's your day. It should be a memorable and joyous occasion.0 -
I'm not a potential millionaire myself, absolutely no chance given the dire state of my current debts:o. At my advanced age, once I'm solvent again, I'll be happy to have enough one day for a new car;)
I love this thread and take so much inspiration from it. The warmth and encouragement of you all for each other is a joy.
Kayalana please don't let other people's pettiness get to you. This is your special time so please make sure you'll remember it for all the right reasons:beer:.
To anyone who is interested, I think MOH is Matron of Honour (chief/older bridesmaid). I've been one a couple of times myself and that's what I was called (made me feel ancient somehow:rotfl:) but MOH may stand for something else nowadays.0 -
Hi Car Boot.
Thanks for explaining what MOH means. You learn something every day.
And.... I just wanted to say CarBoot that given my age I doubt very much that I wil make £1m either. I initially set my target to £300k and am on my way.
Tbh it doesn't matter what your target is, as you long as you are happy.
I know you have a lot of debts but I watch the way you have grabbed them by the scruff of the neck and are wrestling them to the ground. You are doing so well with your £10 a day challenge. (My own efforts there are pathetic at the moment:rotfl:)
Keep going, that nice shiny little convertible will be yours one day......
It was DS2s 29th birthday yesterday. He has this week off. He has been feeling really tired this last few weeks and a little bit demoralised., so yesterday I took him out for a drive into the countryside, through some of our really posh villages. He really enjoyed the ride out and looking at dream houses, he said it helped put a picture in his mind of what he is working towards,.that and the boat.......
I think I've been struggling a bit too recently. Ive been tired and fed up, bogged down with stuff I just didn't want to do. My mums death coming so quickly after my husbands passing really was the final straw. Some days I just wanted to stay under the duvet.
I lost my mojo for a while ........
Thankfully Ive found it again.;)
I recently viewed my dream house..I thought I could stretch to it but I decided it would be wiser not too. I was disappointed but ive decided to use that disappointment as a spur to keep me going. Seeing a house I really liked has helped me refocus and get fired up again.
I shall up the ante and renew my efforts. One day that house or something like it will be mine.:D
(rubs hands and gives evil cackle:rotfl:)
Find a picture of the kind of car you would like....pin it on your fridge or bedroom mirror . Imagine yourself driving on a sunny day with the top Down and a summer breeze on your face.
Stay focussed and keep going.
You and I may not make the magic £1m but we can achieve the lifestyle we want.
All it takes is blood, sweat and tears.;)0 -
You've got me looking on Rightmove now at houses I can't afford...!!
Edit: Psst look I got a badge !!!(Although I don't feel like a deserve it haha!!)
& yes MOH maid of honour, sorry I meant to say but forgot when I was writing the reply.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
Love challenges like this.
I too believe anything is possible, i think it would be fairly easy to do in 13 years. Lets look the skillsets you have now, painter and decorator, self employed, have a property for rent.
So you know about property and you know about running a business.
Devise a marketting plan to expand your business and take on employees, when you can afford it but another home and flip it, keep going with both = millionaire0 -
Today Ive had calls from a couple of estate agents. They are now doing the searching for us, offering us mortgage services etc and Going out of their way to be helpful and get our business. About time..........
It's funny but Ive noticed this before.
When you are skint the banks, mortgage lenders etc don't want to know. As soon as they know you have a dollop of cash at your disposal they all want to,lend you more.:rotfl:
My husband used to laugh and say "Banks will sell you an umbrella when the sun is shining, but just try asking them for one when its raining".
I have to say I take it all with a pinch of salt. I know how to play them all at their own game now. A couple of ex bosses, both very successful, one of them is pretty high up on the Sunday Times rich list, taught me.
Many years ago When my husband and I were broke and we needed a loan our bank didn't want to know. A few years later when we both had our own businesses and the money was rolling in, they fell over themselves to be helpful with preferential treatment and offers of free coffee every time we set foot in the branch.:rotfl:
So if, as it now it appears, the EA's are falling over themselves to find us our properties and come up with some great finance deals then that's all to the good.
DS2 has been disappointed in the past because he realised that we lost out on a property because it went to the EAs favoured investor.
Now it appears we are now the favoured ones;)
You have to laugh.
It just goes to prove the old adage, "fake it till you make it". Look the part, dress the part, act the part.
Think like a millionaire.....play the game and play to win.
Kay - no harm in looking on Rightmove at properties you can't afford.
They will be great houses and you will pick up all sorts of decorating tips and design ideas you can adapt. Plus of course it helps you visualise what you are working for.
Visualise your dreams, so that you can Almost taste the success.
Visualisation is a great motivator, all successful sports people use it as part of their training programmes.
Apparently Arnold Schwarzeneggar is a huge fan of visualisation techniques and look where it got him......;)0 -
Fake it til you make it is how I've come so far
Fresh out of college with no experience I set up on my own and said yes to everything people asked if I could do...here I am now taking on challenges I wouldn't have dreamed of.
Re wedding....Firstly enjoy yourself...any problems just say no worries because on the day that's what it will be. .no worries...I worked in hotels for 10 yrs before decorating and ran 100s of weddings....I've seen it all from dresses voter ed in bucks fizz to caterers being paid to let them down (as in bribed, not as in paid for but not showed) BUT I've yet to see a bride not enjoy her day.
I went abroad and got married for approx £1000 and to be honest at the time it was ideal for me but would encourage anyone to do the 'big day' routine as I do feel a bit like I've missed out. On the plus side my wedding cost about the same as my divorce will
Me and my fella have said if things go well worth won't get married but I will change my name by deed poll have a nice meal and a holiday because that's more our style.
I am always on right move and I too get frustrated at banks not taking real people into consideration and going off computers.
Not sure if I've mentioned that my fellas mum has an allotment...For the first time ever I've managed to grow things from seed and transferred them to the allotment the other week...courgettes, corn, tomatoes, peppers for now. Apparently last year she had so much she couldn't give it away so that's my food bills reduced again so all my cupboards and 2 freezers are full at the moment..90% of it is reduced items or from approved food website (short dated or out of date) it's so nice to let the kids just have what they want and have interesting lunchbox items.
I'm out of my mini rut, both new lodgers have made first payments and current lodger up to date. I've cleared everywhere ready for their arrivals and packed items to move to my fellas for a few weeks.
I've been making sure this week I spend 2 mins on the treadmill each morning at a jogging speed to get endorphins going.trainee millionaire (aka not there yet!)0 -
Tink.
Ive been wondering whether to get either a treadmill or a cross trainer but it will need to go in an upstairs bedroom for now. Would that ok. Which do you think would be best. Can you recommend a good make of treadmill, preferably not too expensive.
Sorry what a lot of questions.
I used to have a mini gym set up in our garage, we had a cross trainer, exercise bike and multi gym. I really miss it, so convenient to be able to just do a 15 minute routine every day instead of trekking off to the gym.
The allotment sounds fab. All that healthy fruit and veg.0 -
Hello everyone
I've been checking around the forum for about 5 years now and decide what the heck I'll join once I looked at the challenge. Well a little introduction of myself I am currently 22 years old I have a 2 year old son I own have my own house with a 65k mortgage left. I have 5k currently in a Santander 123 account so earn a nice 3% and plan to keep pushing the account up by 1k per month.
Recently I have invested into a buy to let property with a 37k mortgage. I have made a plan with my brother to buy a buy to let property every two years after 10 years I will buy a property every year hopefully if my plan works well I should be a millionaire in no time. Any information or knowledge you would like to share would be greatly appreciated. I hope you all the best and I will continue to update you all as i progress.
Thanks Manwithaplan0
