Hiya Guys,
Finally got time to breath....I really have been working morning evening and sometimes into the night.
Unfortunately my little son again has come down with some breathing issues so I have closed shop this morning, luckily the doc has given me an inhaler so hopefully we can stay out of hosp this year. There was a very awkward moment when the doctor said to me 'So I hear you've been in recently with him?' and I said 'Ermm....well I've got a bad memory' trying to recall when the last time he was seen....turns out she had looked in his file seen 'December' and the date was the 9th..for 2013...so it was basically a yearish today that he had the same problems.
See how he goes for now, it feels strange having nothing to do!! Got a couple bits to do but nothing that will take me more then a couple hours.
I really appreciate the support, it really is so so helpful having somewhere to come like this and talk about what is going on. I think as I am self employed I don't get to talk about this stuff with a lot of people (and maybe it's just who I know but I feel like if I mention my business I hit a brick wall? Not my OH...but anyone else just doesn't seem interested..)
It's good about your son LL, I have been working on my OH...he is so much better then he was :-) *cough* Wonga when I met him *cough*
I may buy myself a few motivation books after xmas when I have the time....what I would give for a few hours on my own with my feet upPeople don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
Tintay- I hope you get there man!0

Hi Kay. Sorry to hear your LO is poorly again.
My eldest son has asthma, it's under control, now but I can remember how tough it was when he was little, you feel so helpless watching them struggle to breathe. It's horrible.
Good to see your business is going well. Like you I don't really discuss my business plans or ideas with anyone apart from my sons. Most people seem to think that I should be fully retired and taking it easy but that really isn't my style at all. Whilst I would hate to work for an employer I do enjoy working and being active.
I think a lot of people might like the idea of building a business but dont really understand the level of commitment that is required, they probably don't undestand how enthusiastic you are. I know that I have to reign in my enthusiasm sometimes because I can tell that some people just don't get it.....
Well I have worked myself to a standstill, property 2 is now ship shape and looking really good so we are about ready for the next one.
But first a little rest and time out to enjoy the feasting and festivities....:rotfl:0 -

With respect, there is absolutely no reason why someone in their 50s cannot make £1m.
Money is entirely neutral, it doesn't care how young or old you are, what class you are from, whether or not you have a tertiary education, what colour, race, or gender you are.
If you are smart enough and work hard enough then you can become wealthy.
It's Not the end of the line just because the big five-o has been passed. It's just another birthday.
With a fair wind then someone in their early 50,s can have another 30 years to make money.
I'm 63 and have no intention of resting on my laurels. There's still life in this old dog yet and plenty of fire in the belly.
I relish a challenge and this one is no exception.
Bring it on........:rotfl:0 -
Very well said, lessonlearned:T. Here's to your success:beer:, which, with such a positive attitude, will surely come, even if it isn't quite the 'magic' million.0

Glad you agree CArbootcrazy.......
I doubt that I'll make that £1m but it doesn't matter, even half would suit me just fine. In fact, without wishing to appear conceited Im happy with what I've achieved since this thread started. I've pulled myself out of a deep financial hole and my future looks a lot rosier now. I've also managed to give my boys a bit of a leg up too, so all is good.
I do get a bit cross when I read comments like the one from racing blue. I get that challenges like this are not for everyone but I just wish that people who aren't interested would keep their sarcasm and negativity to themselves.
Constructive criticism and objective feedback are extremely useful but I can't for the life of me see the need for the put downs, I can't see that they serve any useful purpose whatsoever. They can, in fact, be very demoralising and can undermine the recipient's confidence.
Maybe that's the point. The poster thinks I can't do this, so why should anyone else be able to. It's rather a dog in the manger attitude, a bit I cant have it so therefore no one else should.
Hey ho.......
Anyway I noticed your signature. You are doing very well with your make £10 a day challenge. Well done you. With such committment you will get there. Once the debt is cleared you will be able to really crack on and forge ahead.
Just keep going, you're doing great.:D0 -

Thank you so much for your encouraging words, lessonlearned. You're up and about bright and early for a Sunday morning, just like me. Well early anyway, not so bright here yet today:(
My debts are going down because of kind and helpful posters on the MSE forums. Once I took myself in hand thanks to their example I could start to breathe again. Not to mention sleep at night. It's the sharing of experiences and the friendly and encouraging word that makes all the difference in the scary place that is crippling debt. MSE is brilliant, it has the power to turn people's lives around, and long may it continue:beer: I read lots of threads for inspiration even though their goals are way beyond anything I can contemplate at the moment. Tinktay's thread has always been a 'must read' for me.
Starting small with the £10 a Day Challenge has really helped me, I genuinely thought I could never 'find' any extra money anywhere seeing as the lion's share of my monthly 'income' is already spoken for by the DMP I've committed myself to for the next 5 years:eek:. It's amazing what's possible even on such a minute scale. I started at £5 a Day in October, convinced I couldn't even do that, but surpassed it easily. Then it was £7 in November, again exceeded so I went for the Full Monty of £10 a Day this month:eek:. I doubt I'll do it with Christmas on the horizon but will definitely be tightening my belt and having another go in January and beyond. Other people are aiming for a million, I'm unbelievably chuffed to make £10 a day:rotfl:. Little acorns and all that. I'm convinced that anyone who has more disposable income(either from savings or earnings) can achieve wonderful things if they are prepared to put the effort in.
I know I'll never achieve Millionaire status (apart from winning the lottery which in itself is totally unlikely because I can't afford to buy a ticket:o) because I'm too old now (older than you LL) and starting with such a deficit. I'm not being defeatist, just realistic, but fully intend to be enjoying a comfortable and debt-free life long before I pop my clogs:j.
My old school motto was 'I can and I will'. Seems ironic that at my ripe old age I've now come to believe it.0 -

I agree 100%!
A lot of people hit 50 with significant wealth, and the second million is said to be a lot easier than the first. They are still working, often in senior roles. Kids may no longer be dependent. Mortgage might be paid off. For those people those making another million is much easier than for a 20 year old starting out with nothing.
In fact I would imagine that someone is more likely to make £1m in their 50s than at any other time in their life0
