Well today I'm pole axed. I couldn't sleep last night and I'm just so so tired. I ought to be doing stuff but I'm resting

The funeral is tomorrow so I'm just pacing myself. Everything is done and hopefully under control so it makes sense to just give myself a breather. My head is in a whirl though and it's hard to switch off.

I bought some herbal sleep tablets so hopefully I should get a few hours sleep tonight.

DT -sounds like you have a rough time but you seem to pulling clear now. Well done on your perseverance. It does pay off in the end

Sorry to hear about you mum. Of course you miss her, it's a heavy blow.

You've got a good list of. Goals there..

You're right about diversifying income streams. I could definitely do with another couple of irons in the fire. The little book I recommended the very same. We need to be flexible and always on the look out for new ideas and opportunities.

Anyway I'd better get cracking. Tired or not there's stuff I simply must do

LL, if everything is done for the funeral, then there's nothing you *have* to do, honestly. Herbal sleep tablets are a good idea. Remember to drink some water, even if you're not eating properly, it helps a lot. I'll be thinking of you.
Yes KC the dfw board have seen us through a lot and without the support on there things would probably be very different now but it has been such a long time and its a hard slog which is why I have taken a bit of a break from coming on here but inevitably things start to slip when the focus goes hence why I am back.
I couldn't agree more. Things started to go pearshaped for me 10 years ago, coming up to my 50th birthday - my income was down a bit, and I wondered if I should be paying out for a birthday trip to Barcelona :( I'm so glad I went!

I like the points you've listed, DT! I've kept your numbering, bolded a bit of your stuff, and added my own (sorry, it made sense at the time :o):

    2. Be mortgage free if we sell the holiday home. I was starting to work out how to sell my apartment when I got sick - I've had to renew the lease for another 9 years, for 20% less money, but I'm with one of the *best* agents, believe it or not - plenty of people who've bought under this scheme have never received a penny rent, but still have to pay the mortgage.

    3. Have enough set outside so that when my car dies I can replace it I'd love to be able to afford a car - my nephew bought one a few years ago for £4,500 or so, or even the little van that Cheery Daffs bought and paid about £2k for.

    5. Increase and diversify our income streams At the moment, my income is worse than ever, and no money from alternative streams, cos I've been ill for so long. But there are many certainties:
    - counselling work
    - garden and foraging for fruit, veg and herbs.
    - matched betting
    - maximising savings accounts
    - cashback
    - rent from French apartment
    - surveys
    - when I retire from the counselling work - either renting this house out, or selling it and buying two flats - one to rent, one to live in, or buy two flats, rent out both, live in a camper van in France near the International Space University
as well as a lot of potentials:
    -
    competitions
    - Amazon/fleabay/gumtree, whatever.
    - cat website - images, to use on cards, bags, t shirts, etc, and retail accessories like collars, plenty of places sell collars for £30 and upwards, no reason I can't join in with that. Found a place where UK manufacturers are listing wholesale ....
    - writing. Whether its on the cat website, an emergency preparedness booklet I'm writing, or an end of the world novel, or even just articles-for-hire on somewhere like odesk or elance.
    - trading and other nefarious means, too ridiculous to mention because I've been waffling about them for so long.

And, erm, I have a snuffle coming on :(

I've never had that bad of a virus myself but a while ago when DS1 was in hospital with a bad case of Bronchiolitis (I think) he just came down with one thing after the other...I think it was about 2-3 months before he stopped getting ill, although to be fair it was like short bursts..he'd be really ill for a week be ok for 3-4 days and then came the next one..in the end I just stayed in the house for 2 weeks straight as he was picking up everything and anything, horrible thing to watch let alone go through. :(

I've got an update on things my end but I will keep a lid on it for now, in short I'm trying something new and it could go either way, I've put a lot of money and time into something that may not even work...:( we'll see.

Thinking of you today LL and hope everything goes well for you and your family.
People don't know what they want until you show them.
  • Good morning folks I hope the lurgy stays away KC

LL thoughts with you today I hope it goes as well as it can xx

Kayalana that sounds exciting I hope it all works out well :D

Had a long chat with my OH over dinner about one of my business plans which involves one of my hobbies which I have been toying with the idea of turning into a business but its not exactly new so needed to give it a twist and I think I may have got it whether it succeeds is another matter but I think it might be worth a try. I had the idea after reading 10 ways to make money in a free world by nicholas lovell (one of the many free books I have downloaded on to my kindle) about adding value and giving some things away for free but then creating an extra special version for the super customer my plan is not exactly like that but I am trying to add value to what I would be selling its not going to make my million but it could be one of my streams for now until I build up some capital because I think in the end I am going to need some long term investment scheme as well as some short term income streams.

I think matched betting has to be one income stream I nearly started before and didn't. I understand the principles but just need to allocate enough time to it.

I have a QCF qualification which I need to finish the aim is by 10th Sep when my assessor comes to do my observation which will be 2 months early :D which will up my income slightly as a foster carer but only when I get another placement and that is anybodys guess last time it took 2 months but every little helps and when we started fostering 11 years ago we didn't get paid anything above the allowance for each child but as Mr. T annoyingly says every little helps :)

I think that is enough to start on and I need to use the in between placement time to get the business idea in place and get the matched betting cracked at least I won't be twiddling my thumbs :rotfl:

OH is titivating with paint and varnish to make sure the holiday villa is up to scratch as they are coming to take photos tomorrow. The estate agents fess out here are horrific but if we want a realistic chance of selling we need to use one and I have negotiated a 1% reduction which is probably the best I was going to get (just to rub it in its really hot out here I am not looking forward to getting back to the UK :( )

  • Good day everyone

Spent the morning preparing the house for photos all done now and so glad the decision is made its one that's been whirring round in the background for a few years :(

So hopefully the listing will be up in a couple of days and then all we need is the right buyer :)

Going to relax now and have some holiday time but business plans still whirring and lots of research being done must start the remaining QCF modules too but that can wait until its a bit cooler the pool calls :D

  • good luck, persistence is the key... i'm not a millionaire yet but selling all my old junk on ebay really helped pay for some home improvements, it also made the wife happy :)

DT, enjoy the pool! Lovely to have that! I was wondering if I could vary the new lease I've signed in a few years time, so that I could stop renting the apartment out for around a year, and just stay in it myself - its in a year round resort, so there'd always be stuff going on. Don't think there's a pool tho - but I could roll around in the snow :rotfl:

Today has been about vit c and readying things - planting, for instance, which doesn't provide an income stream, but does lessen the strain on what income there is. Off to do a bit more of that in a minute.

Just relisted a few bits on amazon as well - I'll keep on relisting, but I won't use "prime time" during the morning for that, thats when I think best, and I'll do the work on the website and so on. Faffing about listing is to be done whenever I feel like it in the evening - and whatever doesn't sell by the end of next January is going to the charity shop, some of it has already been listed for a loooong time!

Kaya, yes, its horrible to be ill for long periods of time, its **boring** in the end, believe it or not. But your news sounds great, I hope it goes well - DT's twist too, I don't think any of us expect to make our million from one thing, but another stream is good.

Take care all - have good weekends. LL, I understand the weekend can't be "good", but I hope you can at least get some sleep, and talk things over with one or both of your sons.

    Good morning all

Just a quickie to let you know the funeral went well. Actually it was rather lovely in a strange and surreal sort of way. The sun shone, the eulogies were funny and touching and it was nice to see so many of his old friends and colleagues turn up to wish him well.

Yesterday I was shattered and had a splitting headache but I feel a lot better today. Still tired and fragile so just going to take it easy.

The paperwork beckons but it can wait until next week. I'm going to take this weekend to just rest a little and potter about.

    Pottering is good …….:D

Boys are both back at work. DS2 has the week off next week so we are going to make a start and play catch up then.

Pottering is definitely good, I'm glad you've tabled everything else. And how lovely that you and the boys managed to get hold of people from your shared past. Those are good memories, the effort that people made, and their positive feelings, will probably be good to remember in the future.

I'm pottering today too - off to the seaside :) (though I'm taking my camera, just in case I see anything cat-related, and I can stick it in the cat website eventually) :)

  • Glad to hear that the funeral went well LL family and friends support is so important at times like these don't like to think where I would be now without them including virtual friends when things have been very tough :A

Not the best couple of days after logging into banking yesterday and lots of sums I realised that what I thought was going to be tight is in fact probably impossible very little guaranteed income until beginning of November means that relying on possible income just wasn't realistic so I have had to apply for another CC  not quite what I imagined in the millionaire plan and the worry about it all was making me grumpy so I did it and application granted no wonder it is so easy to get into debt :( it is 0% for 29 months so hopefully house will be sold by then if not we do have a plan B but it is not one I really want to do and is definitely last resort. The good news is the card will be a purple one :rotfl:

Today I decided to do some work on my QCF only to find the college site has changed and I can't get into the bit I want  I have emailed my tutor but goodness knows when she will pick it up I have 4 units left to do in 10 days the first one I have looked at shouldn't take long but I would be happier if it was done and dusted so all my good intentions have gone out the window so I suppose I will just have to do some more lounging round the pool :)

Hope your seaside trip went well KC and that you got some cat photos lots of cats here shame OH is allergic to them. We are off to the beach tomorrow we are hoping it will be quiet as most children will have left to go back to school.

    Have a good day folks
