Excellent news LL! Congratulations to you and your boys. Hope all goes smoothly with the conveyancing and survey. I instructed a surveyor on Monday and he still hasn't confirmed a date. I think my job for the day is to find another surveyor. :)

Do you own research and due diligence on investments which give a good return. Have a diverse portfolio. Consider green investments such as solar and wind power i.e. that which is not going to run out.

I keep hearing that physical gold is a good thing to invest in. Dont know where you would keep it though!

I know 2 people who deal in real gold, one of which is my sister in law. I have to say it's a very dodgy world to get in to, she has been set up at least twice and been mugged on gold calls.
She has been raided at home, tied up and robbed 1 time this is before she met my brother and the other, my brother wasn't supposed to be home but was, robbers came in and straight away started swinging a baseball bat with nails in  around, bro managed to get them back outside the house but he ended up with a badly mashed up hand :( they hadn;t expected him to be there, heaven knows what may of happened if he wasn't

Its a dangerous business, people need to know you buy gold, but its catch 22 because once people get to know you buy gold, they know you either have lots of cash around, or lots of gold.

Also the gold price dropped dramatically last friday, biggest drop in 2 years.

That was due to Cyprus stupidly preannouncing that it was about to offload most of it's gold stockpile to try and alleviate some of it's debts. By preannouncing this they have allowed the speculators to short gold and drop the rice meaning they will get less money in return for their stockpile...

    Good morning folks

Here's a little challenge I've set myself to try and speed up my Millionaire Status. Feel free to join in, share your ideas and inspire us all.

I am going to do one extra thing each day to try and add to the total, ie sell something, micro manage my incomings and outgoings, maximise my interest on investments. I started doing this this week and it seems to be working.

So far I have telephoned HRMC because they have messed up my tax rebate. They have said they have now sorted it all out and I should get my rebate in May. About 30 minutes on the phone, followed by a letter etc. Total 60 mins of my time, pay off should be about £2k. Result:D

Went into battle with an energy supplier who were trying to get me to pay for electricity used by the previous tenant. Sent them a very stern letter and a copy of the tenancy agreement. They apologised and have given me 3 months of free electricity as an apology. Another £150 back to me....Again about 30 mins work.

Today I have swept my current accounts and transferred the money into savings. I do it on-line so it only takes a few minutes.

I know it all sounds a bit nerdy but I've decided that I have let things slip a bit of late so it's time to start micro-managing my affairs again, maximising cash flow and interest.

Still not done any markets or car boots yet - just too busy with the house hunting and sorting out my parents with carers, equipment and managing their legal and financial affairs, as well as trying to visit OH and spending good quality time with him. I need a 36 hour day.:rotfl:

Survey being done today, fingers crossed nothing too nasty. We need to make good profits on this house not for it to be a money pit.;)

Hope you are all doing well.

I love this post LL. I have let things slid too. Had to take some money out of my savings this month to pay for car repairs and I have become a bit disheartened so have stopped focusing on my finances and savings goals. I know that when I micro manage the money can really add up. BT overcharged me on my last bill (they charged me for broadband which they no longer supply) so I am going to call them up and get my money back rather than wait.

Having skimmed through this thread, I can only commend you on your challenge to make a £1million.
Around the corner from me lives a lad of 15. He stumbled on a site called 'Spruz' which basically allows you to set up a social website like Facebook or Friendsreunited. The site works much like Wordpress in that they provide the code & templates & you build your site. He paid for a full 1 year package & set up 'ooblur'. He now has close-on 2 million registered users & is starting to turn a small profit from advertisers.

He only started the site as he was fed-up with the way Facebook was going.

Underneath the years of grime there is a lovely house chock full of original features. Hopefully a good investment. Just have to hope that the survey doesn't unearth anything too dire.

This is a joint project between my two sons and myself - I'm the brains and they are the muscles........

It's going to be an adventure. :D

    Hope you are doing well.

I still haven't started the markets or car boots yet - far too blimmin cold!!!

    So pleased for you.
Yours posts are so wonderful and encouraging.
