linking HD box to the internet

Hi - sorry if this question has been asked before, but I cant find any previous thread!
My mother has upgraded to HD and I installed her box last week. Everything was fine.
Now Sky have sent her an ethernet able to attach the modem so she can get anytime.
The router was previously sited upstairs, so she has moved it downstairs and plugged the microfilter into the phone cable previously going into the back of the sky+ box. She has then attached the ethernet cable between the HD box and the router.
Does this sound right? her laptop now wont connet to the internet, but the network and sharing centre says it is wirelessly connected.
I live 50 miles from her so am trying to talk her through it, but without seeing it, its difficult!
thanks for any help / advice

The microfilter should be directly attached to the phone line with the dsl cable for router and sky box cable feeding off the filter.
The ethernet for sky is correct as it is.
Is she able to access sky anytime as that would suggest the dsl line isnt plugged in if it isnt working properly0 -
Ive just rung her and she can access Anytime?Sealed Pot no 20110

The only other thing to test is plugging the laptop into the ethernet and seeing if it can access the net this would then suggest a wireless problem which may be just down to either the wpa/wep password being reset which can easily be changed via the ethernet and accessing the router direct.0 -
would moving the router usually mean re-entering the password? The laptop is currently attached to a large screen upstairs, so looks like I will have to visit to unplug it and give the ethernet cable a try!

thanks for the help.
It could have reset itself during the move as some routers are a bit sensitive.0 -
would it be worth disconnecting the re connecting the router through the laptop wireless? she says it says its connected - would it usually say this if it needed to be reset?Sealed Pot no 20110
