    ^^^^^ YES !!!! probably one of the menu items if you right-click on the wireless connection (in network centre, manage network connections) will be Enable :) then follow the steps in my last post

    what make is the laptop? reason i ask as there is probably a switch either on the side of the laptop or a certain key press to enable/disable wireless.

    its a toshiba satellite i have tried pressing fn then f8 but nothing happen and onscreen some icons come up showing all the f keys but f8 isnt on there!

    hmmm press and hold the fn key whilst pressing 'f8' sorry to condescend - but a few users at my work get caught out by this...

    just last couple days cmatt! when i click network adapters it comes up
    realtek RTL8102E/RTL8103E family pci-efast ethernet nic
    on my laptop i have got somthing different to that
    will look for model num tomorrow and post
    thanks for all help so far! really hope u can help pulling my hair out as i dont wanna share my laptop lol
