Virgin media question

Do I have to have a virgin phone line or can I keep my BT line and call package? Virgin's costs seem expensive to me.

For what?Virgin Broadband?..If you're in a cable area,Virgin Broadband comes over the same line as the TV (COAX) & does'nt come anywhere near a phone line,Virgin or BT'S.
I think you can have Virgin boradband without a Virgin phoneline tho.

Assuming you are talking about cable take the VM phone with the cable BB and you'll get a better initial deal (usually free install and cheaper first few months + most cashbacks (Quidco/TopCashBack) don't payout for naked broadband. Savings by not taking the phone are probably less over the first year than those benefits.

Certainly after a year ditch the VM phoneline and take something like Vonage. It may be cheaper doing that even if you are paying for the phone line because as you've spotted VM telephony is expensive.

You need to cost the various options but certainly if you want VM broadband there isn't much point keeping the BT phoneline.

I have definitely had their TV and BB services without the phone line, but they do do better deals (more or less knock off the price of line) when taking out the phone line too.

Sorry missed out the important part of my post - i did mean cable. Not interested in the TV but the problem with the phone line is that we call spain a lot, with bt we pay £5 per month for these calls and with virgin it's extra £1.75 per month to get calls for 3p/min

Then your broadband is entirely seperate from the phoneline so you can stay with BT if you like.

If they offer you a "Superhub", walk away unless you want to waste hours of your life on the phone.

Quote from a VM level 2 tech "The superhub is incredibly poor & unreliable and we are moving away from Netgear as a result"
