ive heard charity shops arent allowed to sell knitting needles any more as they could be used as weapons!!
They are no longer allowed to display the knitting needles, but many still sell them, they just keep them under the counter and you got to ask to see them. I wonder what criteria they use to recognise the sane ones from the mad-knitting-needle-stabbing-nutters among us!

Oh for heaven's sake - the world really has gone mad!
I now have this image in my head of Caterina wearing a long tench-coat and a hat pulled low over her face, sidling into the charity shop and asking in a whisper out of the corner of her mouth for some of those 'under the counter' knitting needles......
OMG - I am as mad as the rest of them!
Actually, came in to say that my Gran always knitted her own dishcloths out of a sort of string - great for 'scouring' dirty pots, and could be boiled clean.
She also knitted 'wash cloths' out of softer cotton, and made knitted oven-gloves (the long ones with a pocket at each end for your hands) and put an extra pad of material inside the 'pocket' but to make them really heatproof.
She was/is my inspiration for all things OS....she died about 8 years ago and and I really, really miss her....The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

These look amazing!!!! I think I might make some myself. I have some yarn that I bought for baby blanket, which I never knitted as the pattern I got with it contained too many mistakes. Do you think that yarn would be ok for the dishcloth?Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0

I made one last night with the baby yarn I had (apparently it is all acrylic and nylon, but never mind). It looks very pretty. Won't look that good for long - it is white!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0

I can't find any dish cloth cotton online but I have a massive supply of acrylic wool, would that work?0

If you want to make fancy ones, join ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/
Type dishcloth into the pattern search. There are HUNDREDS - some are works of art. I regularly swap dishcloths with fellow knitters (sad, I know) and it's a great way to practise new patterns.0 -
Thanks for the links Mariel - I think thats the site my wife used. Here is a picture of the finished prodct.
