A couple of weeks ago someone on here asked about knitted dishcloths which were on 'Homespun Living' blog ( can't find the thread now though so don't know who it was! ) Just noticed the lady who does the blog has posted a knitting pattern for the cloths - here http://homespunliving.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html0

If anyone is making them, I would be happy to buy a couple“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

Probably a silly question - but what are they? what do you knit them from and are they for daily use (as you might use a j cloth) or what? am very intrigued but feel a bit daft asking0

Hi Bellett, I remember when I was younger my dad used to knit these for my mum!! My mum's a good knitter and used to always make us jumpers and the like, but for some reason my dad used to take it upon himself to knit dishcloths for my mum.
From what I recall, he used to just get a ball of string and knit it up into a square using garter stitch.
In fact I have recently considered doing this myself, but since I still have a stock of j-cloths I thought I may as well get through these first. The bonus with knitted dishcloths is that they are much more durable....

Hi QOTD....oooh I think I'd like to have a go at this....I have a ball of string just need some knitting needles. Thinking about it, I suppose a string dishcloth would be quite good at "scouring" the worktop because it would have a rough surface IYSWIM - would you happen to know if they "wring out" OK or would I have to dry the surface afterwards?0 -
I suppose it would work with string, but you can buy dishcloth cotton yarn.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0

Currently I am using a mixture of standard j-cloths and some dishcloths made from bamboo (environmentally friendly, but similar to string I think!) The bamboo ones wring out well and I've washed them many times in both the washing machine and the dishwasher - I use whichever is being run at the time - and it is still going strong.
I tend to use the j-cloths for really dirty jobs where I don't mind throwing them after I've used them0 -
I found this page from google, it's got loads of different patterns, if you want to be fancy. http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/dishcloths.phpOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0
