  • I am having the mind to do a bit more decluttering. I think the best thing will be to start in DD2 bedroom. Its likley there will be some ebay sales in there too! Not to mention the stuff she has stored at the other house... its time to sort it all out!! It wont occur today, but I can make a little work plan with tick boxes and we can get some stuff DONE!!

Dh is out tonight which isnt bad, but DS was up most of last night teething  I am at work and so tired....

I need to generate more money, as the ebay sales which had been boosted by the maturing bond was used to book a holiday to corfu, the remainder was used to book a holiday to eurodisney in february and I used voucher codes and took advantage of special offers.
So heres to more ebay sales, and next years summer holiday getting booked after christmas.

Today I need to buy a few things. My neice is 14 on Saturday I need gifts, I have lost my driving licence and need a form... annoying.... and I shall go to wilkos for cheap washing powder and lenor.

Ive a pile of declutter stuff to take to the charity shop, once I have a car to do it with.. Grrr

I could now rant about the car, but I wont. I shall instead be calm. However it promised date of completion (revised) was yesterday, and I need it today. Ive a 2 dad army of lift men. I hear more anecdotes than a person should be subjected to.

Tonigh OH is out, and DD2 is out, so DS and I are home alone. should be fun and games... I shall do small manageable things like sort out the post and see what needs actioning. :A

This afternoon I shall make a work schedule. I will detail the areas of declutter and sort, and I shall show them to the family. I sense a thrilled silence, but hey, they are happy with corfu disneyland etc, time to contribute!

Sounding like a lot of holidays ;-)

anyway, I thought I'd update you on my progress re:your ideas!

I am now up 12 quid on items sold on ebay for my first time (listed 13 sold 3). And up 27 quid at Topcashback. If I was in debt, I would be 39 less in debt by now thanks to you guys here and on MFW boards. But as it is, I will give half to the kids and use the rest for summer spends. I have decluttered further by joining freecycle and given away 2 boxes of wire coathangars.

And I did 3 loads of son's post Uni washing (all dried on the line) yesterday and served dinner from reduced items at Groc store and veg from my garden lol.

I am still a spender, but am becoming a penny pincher.
  • Eeh its sound ing fabulous for you atush. My holiday plans sound shocking. Both holidays for 4 people cost under 1500 pounds and I financed it from a little bond, and selling old stuff. Ive still got money left in the ebay pot!! Im mad keen to keep it going as this was our agreed "treat " fund so I shall get myself sorted for next years summer holidays and take advantage of any special offers...

Im absolutely delighted with the decluttering progress, and its great to see you're enjoying it too. Its nice to make money from old rope too.

Myself and OH have 450 quids of little savings bonds sitting there now.

If you find any old mobile phones and whatnot, they sell well :-) I have sold them on ebay and through some websites (used a price comparison site for selling mobiles) reminds me, we have a broken blackberry to sell...

Great to give the kids an extra treat isnt it. I know how you feel about the washing, I faced DD2s Glastonbury mud fest washing the other day, the lines were creaking under the weight!!

Home grown veg, marvellous. I had a look at the old style and frugal moneysaving boards, Im going to investigate further.

    :-)
we all have to spend atush, but its when its wasteful its an issue. I love penny pinching, if i see one on the ground I pick it up and pop it in my penny pot!

Lovely seeing you are back again persevere with the ebay, get them on for 99p, listings free and then its more decluttering :-)

What if they are really old phones? Most of our old pnes are pretty old or even broken. I am the type who doens't relace one till I have to- when I sign a new contract and get a phoine for free or reduced I give it to the kids as a gift. I asked my son for his broken PSP and will put in on next free listing day. And his broken Iopd too. Will relist my 99 items (nine sold only the free listing ones) and list some more tomorrow.

This penny pinching thing is getting to me. I am booking our summer hols there ( I have a gite that I bought for the price of a secondhand car 20 years ago). I have been using topcashback to book the ferry/chunnel, and the hotles in the UK for the Uni visit part of our holiday.
  • If they are really old phones try ebay, you might find someone like my dad who doesnt want internet and wants big bulky phones with sturdy numbers and such. One mans junk is another mans treasure and all that.

Its fun to do though isnt it, making savings but not sacrificing life.
The holiday will be all the better for it!!

Do you rent your gite out? :-)

Do you rent your gite out? :-)

So far only to friends and family. It isn't 'posh' enough to rent out to strangers yet. It is perfectly comfortable, but the yard isn't maintained professionally, and the tiling and other things I did myself. For instance, couldn't afford a new carpet so brought one over that was second hand and fit it in pieces to the bedroom and hall etc. The living room sofa and charis I got second hand in an auction in Jersey. The dining table is second hand from a french place. It only seats 4-5, so when our neighbors come to eat we have to bring in the plastic table from outdoors ;-) We have an old TV there that we play DVDs on in the evenings.

When we first stayed we had to sleep on an air mattress, and I had to tile the bath the first time we stayed the night so I could bath the baby (who is now the 20 yr old who just got home frm uni lol). Each time we came it got that little bit mroe like a house, and less like glorified camping lol. I even put in a Washing machine a few years back.

You can always private message me next year when planning your next hols lol. Always best to follow on from us, as we will have done the garden (which is waist high in weeds when we get there) etc.

Each year we did something to it until it was a nice comfortable place. We used to sit there and think, next trip we will do this etc. Now each year I have to varnish a door/windows etc. Just repainted the bathroom for the first time. But to stick it in a gite site they would want us to put in new carpet, get the garden done every month etc. It would cost as much as I would make lol.
  • Well its much better to have a private home from home, a sanctuary. I just wondered if you had thought of it.

Not sure the characterful place you have described would suit brand new carpet and manicured gardens.

    It might spoil it.
I just wondered, as its another money making opportunity!

Yeah I guess it is, and if I don't sell it then I might. But i really owuld have to have the garden done once a month as w/o it isn't usable.

But then I would have to file French tax returns if I let it. So not sure it would be worth it lol.
