Seller asking me to pay more postage - what do I do?

Please could someone advise me to what to do:
I won something on ebay and paid straight away last night.
Got a message from the seller this morning saying they've been to the post office and the item is going to cost £2 more to post than the price they quoted on the listing and can I pay £2 into their paypal account.
When I bid on the item I decided I didn't want to pay over 'x' amount in total so only bidded up to a certain amount - please note total came to less than £10 so this is a low value item. So I am reluctant to pay more.
What shall I do? Tell the seller that I don't want to pay extra but then they might refuse to send the item.

They will most likely not send the item if you do not pay the extra
But no way should you pay the extra, he/ she is being completely out of order. If it was me, I would refuse and explain I bid my max amount taking into account the postage price. If they then refuse to send, I would leave then neg feedback and report them to eBay as a non preforming seller. Its the sellers look out, I have made postage mistakes before and been out up to a £5 before, but it was my tough luck, no way would I ask the buyer to eat the cost. People bid taking into account the whole price. Its wrong to add more on at the end in any way.

I have checked the sellers history on goofbay - as in the listing they state this is the 2nd one of this item they are selling and they also sold this item on 2nd May with the same start price and postage so they should have known how much it costs to post this item.
Shall I just be firm and say no, as they should know how much it costs to post this item?My daughters are my world0 -
Personally, as a seller, I wouldn't of even asked for the extra postage.
I have on a couple of occasions got my postage costs wrong. Mainly whether an item can be sent as a large letter or not.
If I've underestimated it, then I just take it on the chin. If I overestimated then I refund the excess to the buyer with a polite note.
Depends on how much you want what you've bought. But no, I wouldn't pay the extra postage.0 -
Yes, tell them that you are willing to pay the price you bid plus the listed postage cost and no more.
Don't accept a mutual cancellation, but if they don't send the item which they probably won't. Open a Paypal case for INR after 7 days or whatever it is, leave neg FB & low stars.
Most sellers unless they are bl00dy perfect have done similar, I'd never dream of asking the buyer to pay more.0 -
Yes be firm, they should have sorted this. You can report them as non performing seller if they refuse to send0

I still shudder when I think of some of my basic mistakes with postage. That awful feeling when you go to the paypal payment and see that instead of £10 to the uS you have put £1, and have a huge heavy item to send that the buyer paid £3 for. As a seller you kick yourself a few times and then send the item exactly as arranged without even bothering a buyer with any issues about further payment.
I'm with th eothers, just explain to the seller that what you bid was your best price, and wait to see what they do.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I to am in agreement with everyone else, dont pay anymore.
also like a few others have stated, I have put incorrect postage. Being a private seller I dont sell much so tend to gestimate the postage, if I charge too much I will refund (and state this in my listings) and if I under charge then its my tough luck. Ive had a number of 99p items where I only charge £1 postage and it has actually cost closer to £2 but i wouldnt dream of asking the buyer for more, at the end of the day its the sellers mistake not the buyers.0 -
How many answers ar ethere to this? Every time a post like this appears, scores of people tell us how they heroically stood the loss when they undercharged, then repaid the difference when they overcharged.0

Don't send any more.
I, in the past have made errors in postage charges, as a seller, that is my fault, took it on the chin so to speak, learnt for next time to get it right.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles
