Help ! I have V5 but no car

Even if arrives at the dealership today, you are unlikely to be able to collect it untill this time tomorrow. It will need a PDI and valet.
There are a number reasons why most dealers will NOT register a car before it's in their possesion. Firstly (as i've already mentioned) checkng the VINs is impossible. Checking the condition of the car itself is impossible (lets hope yours has no transportation damage as some do in my experience) And, possibly most importantly, as the registration date is nearlly always the same as the delivery date, it will start the warranty clock ticking.
What would happen if it was a new registration date and you wanted to pick your shiny new car up on THAT day?PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

Oh, obviously changed then since I worked at a dealership. We had to actually have all the paperwork to hand and all the vin numbers ect had to all be checked before we could register a car, But thanks for putting me straight.
How long ago did you work at a dealership, did it have electric lighting?

Some c*** of a delivery driver gets a kicking? :rotfl:
If it's being driven surely it should be on trade plates though.0 -

And the reason for doing it today is because if they ring me today or tomorrow to say it is still not here, I would be prepared and know what to say to them. I just think it is a bad way to do business to say that I could pick the car up last week, then this week and I have no idea where it is. Obviously it exists because I have the reg no and the V5. It just reinforces the stereotype of car salesmen/women, they will promise anything till they have your money.
Sounds to me that you got a good deal for registering it in April, perhaps the manufacturer's support was dependent on the car being registered by the end of April. When cars are registered that hastily, it is impossible to predict what might happen. It really has only been a few days since the expected date of delivery and the dealership has no control over the customs logistics. If customs have delayed it, for whatever reason, the dealer is not at fault. Would you have rather paid more for the car and had it registered in May, but delivered at the same time? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Also the date of aquisition will be wrong on the reg doc.
If the car is not through customs yet, not with the dealer and no plates, it is hardly likely. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Well, it's a week later than they said, I don't know when it will finally turn up. Yes, I did get a good deal, better than whatcar taget price but is it too much to ask for a bit of honesty ? It's not actually the delay that worries me, as I have waited months previously for a new car but it's never been registered to me until I take delivery and I was told that it would take x number of weeks/months. In this case I feel like the dealer has no idea when it will be delivered even though he told me last Friday that the transporter people had told him they would be here today at the latest. (I beleive him about that. I daresay the transporter did come today but not with my car!) There is no communication from them, I am the one who has to call just to be given reasons/excuses why the car is not here. Thanks for replies everyone, it is appreciated.0

How has the dealership been dishonest? It's not actually the delay that worries me, as I have waited months previously for a new car but it's never been registered to me until I take delivery and I was told that it would take x number of weeks/months.
I ask again, "Would you have rather paid more for the car and had it registered in May, but delivered at the same time?"In this case I feel like the dealer has no idea when it will be delivered even though he told me last Friday that the transporter people had told him they would be here today at the latest. And yet you seem to have been gifted with the skills of a clairvoyant. There is no communication from them, I am the one who has to call just to be given reasons/excuses why the car is not here. Thanks for replies everyone, it is appreciated.
Have you not got their telephone number? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
