They have set guidelines that they work within, if you need it to earn money then they may let you keep it, if you need it for any other reason, they will take it, they are only interested in getting the money for your creditors, they aren't social services, I suppose it may seem harsh, but then again they have probably heard every sob story going in order to keep hold of property, so I understand the position they find themselves in.

They are just doing their job.

That is totally wrong, I kept my car due to health reasons, which was supported by a letter from my GP and my examiner was totally fine about it. It all depends on the individual examiner unfortunately..

So, after at three separate posts, you are happy with the answer about your bike, you then state "if br is an option for me"

To be honest no one except your OR will decide if you keep you bike, posters can only advise from there experiences. The same with SOA, one OR will allow this and that to a certain level , others play differently .

Hopefully your OR will allow you to keep it, but on the otherhand the OR may allow you to keep it but not give you any allowances for it.

I didn't think they were interested in cars valued less than 1k. Seems to be a very grey area, hearing lots of conflicting information about this. I will need my car to ferry my kids to and from school, after school and use it to get to work, but my car is worth nothing.

This is a common mistake that people make, they think solely about the value of a vehicle. What seems to be conflicting advice to you is actually just different people with different individual situations. The reason a car is exempted has nothing to do with value, it is to do with the reason you need to keep a vehicle, There are 2 reasons that you can keep a vehicle, one is for work and the other is for basic domestic need, the second has to pass a much tougher test than the first. Only if you fit the case for exemption is the value taken into account, If you dont fit the criteria for exemption then it is the OR's asset

This information covers the questions you are most likely to ask about your motor vehicle – a car, van, motorbike or any kind of transport powered by an engine – if you go bankrupt or have a debt relief order.

I valued my car at £800 in my SOA, had my interview over thw phone with the OR and told them i used to travel back and to to work, and to see my children at the weekend. The OR then said she would class it as an exempt asset. Prior to this i was cacking it about losing it!!!
