Not 100% sure as I was allowed to keep my car. I think you have to wait until after the or lnterview and see what they decide about you being able to keep it or not. They will then tell you what to do about making a offer if they are not going to let you keep it. I dont think you can do this until after yo are br and hve your interview.

I may be wrong but im sure someone else will know more.

How much is the car worth? As said above you will have to wait for the OR interview before anything happens to your car. Ours was valued at £4400 approx by the agent the OR sent round, we were allowed to buy the BI for £1700 (plus the £2000 allowance the OR gave us for a vehicle)

as the others have said wait to see if it can be claimed as exempt first, if it can't then we will work on an offer

I had informed O.R. that my vehicle was worth approx £500 at my interview. They told me that the vehicle would be seized unless I made them an offer. I started at £100 and went up in £50 increases until they said 'yes' at £250.

I didn't think they were interested in cars valued less than 1k. Seems to be a very grey area, hearing lots of conflicting information about this. I will need my car to ferry my kids to and from school, after school and use it to get to work, but my car is worth nothing.

Mandy - hopefully, as you have medical letters stating you need the scooter for your health, the OR will exempt it for you.

I just gave them details of the car, they valued it themselves and they sent me a letter saying they had no interest in the car, they confirmed it in writing.

As I had been heading towards an Employment Tribunal at the time the also mentioned that i would need it to seek work if my appeal was unsuccessful and so was my ET, as it happens I won my appeal and was reinstated, sadly not soon enough to stop going BR, which was for just under £800 of Council Tax, that had accrued when suspended!

Lesson learned, don't let the wife sort out the Council Tax, lol.

I had been informed by well-meaning friends that a vehicle under 1K would not even be a consideration to the O.R. especially as in my case there was no finance on it. I was informed at the interview that because I lived and worked in the same post-coded area I didnt need a car ????? I explained that i needed the car to ferry my elderly mother to hospital appointments and for her shopping etc but that fact did not sway them at all
