Half plot 25feet/35feet is £16 including water and general site maintenance.0

I think we are being shortchanged on the allotment size. 60ft x 12ft-15ft is a full plot. Mine tapers
from just under 10ft wide to 20ft at the back. Treeline also restricts the width in some places.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Really the key here isn't what others charge but what YOU need to charge... is the land owned by the council or private? Is there land rent? how many plots can you fit on the land? Is there water and if so is it metered?
Will you be including path and fences upkeep etc? Are there any facilities on the site that you need to consider paying for upkeep on?
We set ours up at a rate of £15 pa for a minimum 8x8 meter plot - one off £10 key deposit refunded when a key is returned. This covers water but has a clause in the contract where should the water bill go through the roof then all plotters are expected to pay their share of the excess water bill. At the moment the money paid in ground rent has paid for water to be installed at several points across the site including hiring a digger and paying for materials. Next on the list is rabbit proof fencing for the whole circumfrence of the site I think...
We are fortunate however that the rent for the fields are a staggering £1 per year and insurancewise we are paying £7 to the parish council who have rented the land of the landlord for them to extend their public liability insurance to include the site and specific risks included...
If you however have ground rent of £250 per year for example that is something you would need to factor in... Would you be paying someone to maintain the paths or are you going to rely on plotters sticking to the upkeep of the paths round their plots (if you do be prepared to chase them!!!)

£25 for full plot 30ft x 90ft including mains water
I saw an article in a recent gardening mag saying the average cost saving for a family of 4 with an allotment is £1200 so quite a reasonable price (Don't tell the council!)0 -
Ours is half size with no water supply for £10 per year (due to double this year).Just when I'm about to make ends meet, somebody moves the ends0
