BIC Code

How do I get this and what is it? Someone in Europe says they need it to T/N some £ to me. Is it specific to my account or just the bank (Abbey)?

    Hmm not entirely sure. Could it be your IBAN number he/she needs?

    International Bank Account Number?

    If the BIC = IBAN code then yeah, if you ring your banks telephone banking service they should be able to give you.

    Perhaps they can also explain if BIC is IBAN too.

    Contact your bank and ask them

    You may need both the BIC (SWIFT) and IBAN

    IBAN for Cahoot is GB27ABBY sort code account number

    SWIFT (BIC) code is ABBYGBxx depending on the currency

    Oh, so they are in fact two seperate codes. Learn something new everyday.

    I know what the IBAN is, so what is the BIC? :)
  • Abbey puts IBAN and BIC on top of all statements (since at least 2 years)

    My BIC = ABBYGB2LXXX My IBAN = GB25 ABBY 0901 2668 0000 00
    (My sort code = 090126 // my account number is 68000000)

    Whether BIC = ABBYGB2LXXX applies to the whole bank or certain branches, I don't know.

    BIC = Bank Identifier Code

    normally relates to the bank so all branches have the same BIC code
