I think you are missing the point-I know you were awarded LRM but that doesn't mean that whoever filled the form out did so in such a way that demonstrated the care needs accurately- or if they did, then can I gently say, maybe the award is correct? In some ways it is harder to prove with a child, as kids need so much imput anyway,if you don't give extra care over and above another child of the same age for the times indicated then a care award won't be made. As it took them so long, didn't they already contact your GP, the paed etc for reports, and did your school fill out the report contained within the report for you? The SENCO's usually do a good job of that part of the form, or in my case my son's teacher did it as the SENCO was off sick. Have a look at this and see what you think.

I have experience of these forms as I used to complete them for other people when I was a Health Visitor, and despite having some skill, not every application I completed got the award the family wanted-and sometimes when they appealed they got a lower or no award. Good luck with your appeal!

Didn't realise you could claim DLA for kids with ADHD, My Daughter has it (But I got a feeling when she is older she will be re diagnosed with BP2). So do a lot of my cousin's. But I will be honest I don't think I would put in a claim for it. If everyone who's child had it claimed for DLA This country would be even more worse off! The amount of kids that have been diagnosed with ADHD (and a lot of the parents won't leave the surgery until it's been diagnosed, I read this in the sun news paper while ago) Is a lot!

You can't necessarily claim DLA for ADHD. You claim DLA if they have additional care needs. Some with ADHD do, some don't. Those that do (such as my DS2, who also has ASD and some developmental delays) will qualify for DLA. Trust me...you'll find that a vast majority of people who rather NOT qualify for DLA and have their child not have to deal with these issues.

Sorry, but let's not believe everything you read, eh? I get so tired of hearing people spin DLA for children as a moneymaker. It's just ridiculous. DLA is not just handed out willy-nilly to anyone who applies with a diagnosis. There has to be a demonstrated need backed up by medical professionals.

  • We had not see paediatrician for 3 months, so the anxiety is not detailed on the form as what Connor has, just the problems he does have and he needs a lot of supervision and care than another 8 year old. Please say what you like, I take all info xnd advice in. It's just that I have struggled with what help I can get as no One seems like they want to help. The school have told me that he has a statement of sen but that's all? Thank you all for taking the time to reply

Sorry If I sounded funny on my above post. Didn't mean it to come out that way.

My 12 year old needs more care, looking after, she is hard work. Paying for extra activities for her to keep her busy is a financial burdon I will admit. But it gives us at home that extra few hours a week time out.

I wish you good luck with your appeal. There should be a letter with your letter to confirm you been accepted the lower rate on how to appeal.

Thinking about this myself. Am waiting for CAF and CAMS to get in touch with us about help.
  • it can be upsetting for a parent to fill in these forms, its like having to admit your child does out of the norm things and make you as a parent look incompitant at raising a child, your subconcious knows what you should put but you morral mind puts something else so it doesnt look so bad on the forms unfortunately for us we have to put every detail and examples of these on the forms, if we dont, well we get an inaccurate award or no award, and were left waiting 10-12 months for an apeal to come to fluition and the same goes for all DLA applications right down to the serverly ill.

have you kept a copy of the DLA aplication form you sent in? relook it through and let your subconcious answer the question again and see if it rings true to what youve actually put on the form we all try and sugar coat things when we are asked personal questions, and its the same with the forms but instead of sugar coating tell it as it is.

Have you looked at the Cerebra link I included? That should tell you whether the time involved in care is sufficient for low, medium high rate care. It isn't enough to say 'he needs a lot of supervision and care than another 8 year old', they ask for minutes taken on each part and how often. That's why I keep a diary-makes it so much easier to give time and frequency/range of care needed and actual examples of melt downs and how long it took to deal with it. Do you have any night care to carry out, as sometimes that alone is enough. They really make you work for your money on this form. I dread doing it every time and am just grateful that they have only ever taken 2 weeks to process my son's. Get some help to appeal, this isn't over yet.
