Hi, I am new to all this and need some help/advice. I applied for dla for my 8 year old son who has serveer ADHD in middle of February this year, I have just heard back from them and they have awarded him lower mobility and no carers allowance. What should I do??? Appeal or ask them to reconsider? Any help is gratefully received. Heidi

You would a really good case for appeal and you could be waiting up to 10 months for your appeal to be heard. So I would ask for a reconsideration first and then appeal but be prepared for a long wait!0

Any advise as I will ask for a reconsideration. Thanks for your first reply0

WOW
Didn't realise you could claim DLA for kids with ADHD, My Daughter has it (But I got a feeling when she is older she will be re diagnosed with BP2). So do a lot of my cousin's. But I will be honest I don't think I would put in a claim for it. If everyone who's child had it claimed for DLA This country would be even more worse off! The amount of kids that have been diagnosed with ADHD (and a lot of the parents won't leave the surgery until it's been diagnosed, I read this in the sun news paper while ago) Is a lot!0 -
It was the school who noticed my sons behaviour. They don't just hand out the diagnosis of ADHD easily. I only wanted some advice/help!0

The sun newspaper well that is very definitive! Who said it, Kelly from Bournemouth as featured on page 3? :rotfl:0 -

Turnovers at a Reconsideration are rare and usually only happen when the claimant is able to supply additional compelling evidence within the 4 weeks you have to do so. Most people are unable to do this because of the timescales, which won't be an issue with an appeal.0 -
i would appeal because they look at the claim again goodluck0

Have spoke to them today and an advisor is getting in touch with me and my son paediatrician has also diagnosed him with anxiety. I will get all paper evidence ready, I have most of it from dla claim and more. Thanks everyone for the info and replies. Anything else gratefully received. Heidi0

Did you get help with the forms? Having applied successfully for my son 3 times now I know that you really do have to word things properly to get accepted. You might like to look at the advice on DLA applications on the Cerebra website if you are unsuccessful and reapply sometime. Remember, it is given on care needed not the condition,so you have to carefully describe and demonstrate what extra care that your child needs compared to another child his age, and how he would be affected if he didn't get that care. There is an amount of time that is needed to be described each day/night and if you don't meet those times (honestly-no point making it up) then you won't get the award. It has taken me a week to fill in the form each time, carefully going over the diary that I keep of what happens with my son, who is on the autistic spectrum. Filling those forms was one of the hardest things I have ever done-very complicated, some of the questions are repetitive and seem designed to trip you up and it is DEPRESSING! Get help from a benefits advisor at the CAB if you think you may not have the knowledge for this.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

I did have help with my form and was awarded lower rate mobility. Sent form off at the end of February and they got back to me beginning of may. It is a very depressing form that's why I got help, writing down about Connor was so upsetting. At least I got lower rate and was not turned down straight away. Heidi0
