Orange activating new phone

Hope someone can help me...please.
I bought my son a PAYG orange mobile on Saturday from Tesco. Set it all up and rang up to activate it with customer services.
They told me 24-48 hours to activate the sim (which is ridiculous anyway, all other PAYG you can use straight away).
I have rung up 5 times now and its still not activated. It is now 65 hours since I set up the phone and its just sitting there.
My son goes on a school trip on Wednesday, hence the phone being brought for him, any ideas how to get this sorted please. Customer services are driving me mad......

Have you kept the phone turned on the whole time?
It's a while since I did this but I think you have to turn it off for a while. Overnight?0 -
Hi toffeeapple
As zenmaster suggests, you may want to try turning your son's phone off for a few minutes and then turning it back on. This will make the phone try to reconnect to the network and may help any pending update messages be delivered to the phone.
If this does not help, I'd advise to contact Customer Services again to look into this for you. Alternatively, if you contact us using the information on our Profile page, I'd be happy to see if I can help.
I hope we can get your son's phone up and running shortly.
