That sounds like a right faff, 90 grammes of sugar???!!!0

That sounds a lot of sugar to me, almost 4 oz.
I had been buying the individual packets of porridge - usually from a local small freezer shop or the £1 shops but have started to use Aldi organic oats.
I make them in the same way as the packets, with 180ml of semi-skimmed milk but no added sugar.
I stir a spoonful of jam or curd in to add a bit of sweetness, but don't have a sweet tooth so sour cherry, lime curd etc works for me.0 -

This works out at 5p per portion.
Perhaps I should have explained better, it is for a great big container full of instant oats, so in context it isn't really a lot of sugar, it's not to make just one portion. I really cannot remember the measurement for oats if it's 300g, 400g or 500g.
It makes instant oats, very much like the tubs you can get from Greggs.
Once made, you just take 3 dessert spoons of the porridge mix, top with boiling water and mix. You can add anything you want to it. It's fantastic for taking to work.0 -

I think you were mixing up apples and elephants.
90 grams of milk would not work with a big container of oats.
Haven't you got sugar and oats to feed the five thousand but milk for a single portion?
Doesn't the sugar fall to the bottom of the container?
I've never measured liquid in grams, I use millilitres.
I think my organic porridge would work out as cheap if not cheaper.0 -
No wonder me and the poster above me were confused.

Again i apologise for the confusion, it's a mix that's made up. The milk is powdered. The sugar did not fall to the bottom, it was that good I really want to make a fresh batch.
There are a few blogs of how they have made instant oats, but my husband and I really loved this one.
I was hoping someone would have the recipe?0 -

Sorry.
You lost me at 90gms of sugar and again at powdered milk.0 -
Thanks,
I hope someone else can help. Otherwise I hope the website comes back up.
This really is a good recipe, you don't need milk or a microwave.
Just some boiling water.
I used the recipe too, this is what I have noted down, but not sure if I've adapted overtime to suit us, HTH helps though.
600g Oats,
90g Milk powder
We omitted the sugar as use honey/dried fruit or choc spread for flavouring so found we didn't need it.

Thankyou x 100.
I was quite far out with my guessing. I think you are correct.
For the benefit of those who may post later. Here is how I remember making it.
Toast 600g of oats in the oven on a tray for about 20 minutes.
Then put roughly 400g of them in the blender, along with a teaspoon of salt, 90g of skimmed milk powder and 90g of sugar. (optional).
Blend together not too much.
Stir the rest of the oats in. Store in an airtight container.
To make up put three dessert spoons of mix into a cup/bowl. Cover with boiling water. Leave for a couple of minutes and stir.
Top with fruit, seeds, cinnamon.
It really is very good.0 -

It is, however the sachets are 6 for £2.
They also need microwaving.
I buy a big bag of oats from lidl for 65p. I also use the oats to make flapjack so it's something I have in anyway.0
