Just had a look at that Westlothisnlass - I think that your discovery is the one to go for. Precooking the oats by toasting is going to make all the difference!0

We put the raw Porridge Oats in a blender and give them a good zap.
Then three mins in a microwave (Useing a wide top dish)I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
you can make ordinary porridge the night before and then microwave in the morning. I make 3 servings in one go with some whipped cream that i got from the market, even though i live alone.it saves time for the next 2 mornings. HthWe put the raw Porridge Oats in a blender and give them a good zap.

The OP doesnt have access to a microwave0 -
I put oats and boiling water in a food flask. When you want to eat it mix in the powdered milk (sometimes the boiling water can make powdered milk go blobby), reseal it after a good stir and you're good to go.0

If not the recipe comes up in her search engine on the main page.
Seems really easy so hope it helps

Ahhhh thank you so much! My hubby wants to take porridge to work but has a huge phobia about the shared microwave (factory full of grubby men with smelly foods ) He can get boiling water from the vending machine so this could work for him!!0 -
I make my own with Tesco Value oats - it makes a thicker porridge than the instant packs but I like it like that. Just mix the dry ingredients together and stir in boiling water. It thickens if you let it stand for a minute or two:
1/2 cup of oats
2 tbsp dried milk powder
1/2 tsp sugar (more if you like it sweet)0 -
I'm really in to eating porridge, and found that the £1.20 per pot fee to buy the instant Quaker and Scott's porridge pots (where you just add water.)
I decided to come up with my own recipe, pop it in a tupperware pot and added hot water at work.
Recipe:
40g Oats (I use Scott's)
2 tsbp Milk Powder
200ml boiling water.
1) Stir the dry ingredients before adding water.
2) Add the 200ml of hot water.
3) Stir well.
4) Put a lid on for about 2-3 minutes so that it thickens up.
5) Enjoy :j
The first time I made this, I did it at home and made sure to make a mark on the pot so I knew how much water 200ml should fill with the dry ingredients already added.
Now, I pre-measure the Oats and the Milk Powder in little plastic bags for the week, and off I go! Saving a small fortune!
Hopefully somebody finds some use from this, as I had little success finding an easy recipe for this on Google.

Brilliant, I am definitely going to try this as I like to use instant porridge pots at work if I don't get time to have breakfast or I am peckish later on.
This way I can control what is put into my food and also everything is in my store cupboard so it is a cheap meal option for me.:D
