Tuttifruitty_Theresa wrote:i forgot to comment on the price of bread earlier, i can't believe that most bread is now nearly £1.00 a loaf (luckily for me i'm on the slimfast diet so i don't buy it), but who would have thought a couple of years ago that we'd be paying so much for it. I've decided to go to Tesco's tomorrow and the market on friday to see if i can pick up some cheap fruit, thanks for your help in where to get it cheap (really need it fill me up lol).

Most bread is £1 a loaf but I refuse to buy it and get Tesco's wholemeal bread at 54p a loaf.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
my local morrisons still have there own fishfingers at 17p for box 10:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

i alwasy used to buy tesco value fish fingers. but now in my local store they are 49p a box. so i now buy birdseye 20 fish fingers whihc are 100 % fish from iceland for 2 pounds. i know dearer than 17p or even 49p. but i like the idea of 100 % fish in them.
but on other hand tesco 3kg of pasta is now fixed a 1 pound a bag.
i must say i am finding the prices are slowly rising. but i am moving away from value products now, as i am finding they are not provding as much value as they used to.0 -
i use nettos for all my shopping - good fresh meat and cheap tins and packets. i use Aldi for all my fresh fruit because they have a wider range and cheap too! They're bread is also really nice and at 27p a loaf you can't go wrong!"Failure is always an option"

It must be hard to get away from value products if you are on a really tight budget like a lot of people are. The thing is the value products are getting a lot closer to own brand which often offers a much superior product for literally a few pence more.
I hardly ever buy any value products as there is only me that I feed (most of the time) and I am fussy. I would rather buy 2 packs of sausages with a 90% meat content when they are on BOGOF for £1.20 than 2 value packs that are 60p each with a 30% meat content.0 -
I'm shocked at how the price of branded breakfast cereals has rocketed. We do prefer Kelloggs etc. as some of the own label ones taste very cardboardy, but some of them are now about £2.50 or more, for a pack which only lasts my OH a week. He likes to have a bowl or two of cereal instead of a pudding after tea, but recently instead of a filler-upper it has become a major cost in our weekly budget.
If anyone can recommend any own brand cereals (he likes the oaty, fruity and bran flake ones) that are nice, I'd be very grateful.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I buy 150g bag of Asda smart price Branflakes(£0.71p) and then mix some Asda sultanas or mixed fruit into it (£0.41p bag 500g) lasts a lot longer than the stores own that is pre-mixed and you get more fruit:DRebel No 220 -
150g does me for one breakfast!:o Is that a typo?
It must be 500g or 750g surely?0 -
cereal is a bone of contention with me.Ive 4 kids so get through a box every 2 days.Find when we are skint we eat alot more toast now which isnt as healthy.Having said that some of cereals arent either. So we have started having fruit and yoghurt some mornings.Banana with natural yoghurt is lovely and ive started making porridge in cold weather.Egg on toast is cheap and cheaper than some cereals now.0

I rarely eat cereal anyway but it doesn't keep me going until lunch. Not a chance.
Egg on toast, what a great breakfast.0
