I would like to say thanks for helping me get all my files back! Legends you all are.
However, does anyone know how to fix the problem i have? Do i need a new hard drive?
1) Disc Utility (system>administration>diskutility) in particular click on your drive and look at its status and also if possible the SMART data from the drive itself.
2) the Partition Editor (system>administration>gparted) this can be used to both observe and to change partitions, but just now do not change stuff, just look! properties, Information and Check can be used to examine things.
If the hard drive surface is OK, and the filesystem or OS (Vista) is messed up you might find a recovery CD can help, you can download these:

I can recommend Ubuntu, I have not used Windows for years now.
Good luck!0 -
Hi guys, ive still not managed to get any further. Windows loads up, but restarts before the login screen appears.
I have "the tech guys" windows repair environment which gives me the above problem and says "start up repair cannont repair this computer automatically" and gives me the problem codes i posted in my original post.
Anyone have any further ideas bearing in mind i dont have the windows vista discs? It runs fine using obunto but im still confused to why vista isnt working.0 -

TBH, you probably need a new hard drive if that one is corrupt, then you will need to reinstall the operating system with a disc that you have requested from the manufacturer, or you coule run linux which is free.Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together.0
