When we moved into our house the previous owner left a few pairs of cacks on the rad just inside the front door!

The door must have been propped open while loading up the van so hid the radiator.

  • You wont believe the state of the first house I bought.

Two people owned, one wanted to sell other didn't.

When we moved in the person who didn't want to sell was the only person still living there and left it in a dreadful state.

Cats pee on carpet. Beer cans turned on their side and the liquid on the carpets also. In one of the rooms a cupboard was smashed to pieces, glass everywhere.

Needless to say it also hadn't been cleaned.

We were so upset, it was the first house we bought together. We had arrived with two plastic champagne flutes, champagne and a blow up bed to sleep over that night.

We ended up travelling back into London and staying in our rental that night. Next day we just organised some contract cleaners and a house clearance company came and took away everything that remained in the house including the carpets.

We lived on patio furniture for a few months, and slowly got everything sorted.

    Sadly not everyone has morals.

When we moved to this house, I arranged for carpet cleaners and a contract cleaning company to be there at the point of completion. The previous owners were horrified. The place was already sparkling when we moved in, so the cleaners went home.

When we bought our last house which had previously been 4 tenanted flats, one of whom the previous owner had to take to court to get out, we found fifty plus items of awful cheap furniture had been left behind as well as loads of unwanted possessions including several broken guitars. The inside of one external door had been plastered with polystyrene - I think it was used as a dark room............there were noodles and grease encrusted over a door behind an oven in one of the four kitchens and one of the baths - which had originally been yellow (!!!) - was now a lovely shade of brown  When we removed a carpet in one room there were so many stains on the floorboards below, god knows what the tenants had been doing - we reckoned they had peeing contests before they left.................

We had been staying at my parents' house since our previous house sold some six weeks previously and despite having an eight year old son, we were only too glad to get out of my parents' place even though it meant we got through masses of industrial strength cleaning products/disinfectant and several skips full of broken up furniture before we even started on the major renovations!

Will make sure I stipulate house is left clean if/when I buy my next property.

Not sure how you could enforce this..... whose definition of clean?
People have different standards and one person's definition of clean may not be up a fussier person's expectations.

(Obviously this doesn't apply to your recent problem, I don't think anyone would have believed what you have described could be clean :D)

When we bought our last house the previuos owners had done a moonlight flit, we used to get debt collectors and police men visit all the time. But the dreadful thing was that they had left 3 cats in the building from the tuesday, when they left until we found them after mid day on friday. There was a hatch from the kitchen to the dining room, where they had thoughtfully left some water.

Lovely, and me pregnant and with a toddler.

When we moved, we made sure the house was clean & tidy as we moved out. I left just before our removal van, to make sur I was here to meet them when they got here, and DH stayed behind to give the old house a final run-round with the vac & damp cloth for new owners. Had to pop back the following day (forgotten to get my beutiful spanish mirror from the bathroom!), to find they had ripped up all the floorboards cos they were putting in new central heating, so the place was FULL of muck and dust.

We just wished they had told us thats what they were going to do, so we could have put in just a LITTLE less effort on their behalf !!
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

Aww how awful, I wouldn't dare leave our house dirty, infact I have just cleaned the oven today in readyness for our moving date, (hopefully the 27th). Oven Pride is great, it's a clear jelly like substance that you spread about and you put the racks in a big bag, ours have come up spangly! Think it was £3 odd and it's the same thing the pro oven cleaners use.

Personally it wouldn't bother me because I do a massive clean anytime I move into anywhere anyway regardless of whether it already looks clean or not.
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
