Iphone 3G, no support and still 12 months to go

Hi there,
don't know if anyone can help but thought I would ask.
I took out an iphone 3g just over 12 months ago and have started having issues with it.
I did some digging and found that the latest ios software update would rectify the issues I was having. Attempted to update to this latest version only to be told I am already on the latest version. Upon checking some more into this, I find that Apple have withdrawn all support for my model. I have tried speaking to Orange customer service who point me to apple and spoke to apple who point me to orange and round and round i go.
Is there anything I can do about this or am I stuck? When i got the phone some 12 months ago, there was no talk of removing support for this device and if there was, Orange certainly shouldnt have been offering this phone on 24 month contract with the prospoect of having no support.
Appreciate any help.

First have you trioed to update it, some fixes til January were available for this phone?
The 3GS 8GB was discontinued June last year, the other sizes before that. Apple discontinued support in January of this year for the 3G completly.
Exactly when did you get it ? If it's in warranty and you have issues log a call to apple to fix it. Often apple replace 3G with 3GS when returned under warranty. If it's beyond 12 months and you don't have AppleCare unfortunatly you are out of luck sorry.
The phone has 12 months warranty, and was already long into it's product cycle when you bought it, you must have been aware it was about to be discontinued as the 3GS has been out for over a year too. Once the maker ceases support thats usually it.
Should orange have sold it to you is another matter but normally Apple don't announce details to anyone before it's announced to the world. They may not have known, however your airtime contract is not connected to your phone, so there is not really a case, the advisor can't be seen to have mis advised you if they had not been told by Apple.
Sorry this is not what you would like to hear, if it's any help you may be better trying to downgrade it to iOS 3 which performed much better on a 3G iphone than iOS4 does.0
