My pot head neighbours

Options
Some of you may remember we have a long standing issue with our neighbours!

Everything settled down end of last year and we havent had any problems with them . . . . until about a week ago

Now - each to their own and that - but their lads are smoking cannabis and the smell is seeping through our upstairs landing (and it STINKS!)

I've tried everything to get rid of the smell and it isnt shifting (had windows ajar today and sprayed no end of air freshener i think i may be the cause of the hole in the ozone layer!)

Speaking to the parents doesnt work - they know its happening, they dont care

I can never seem to catch on of the boys to have a word - the mainly ignore the door when they are in.

We had police round the other week (this was for a seperate incident - house to house calls about a burglary down the road - i invited them in to talk) and even they noticed it but said as it is more than likely for personal use they cant do anything and to speak to the landlord

Whilst yes, they are in breech of tenancy, i know the landlord wont do anything because at the end of the day, the rents getting paid

SO

How to i stop this smell? I think it might be worse with the pregnancy hormones but its disgusting :(

What type of building is it? If you're in a house and the smell is seeping through to yours then I would first want to find out how it is getting in to the house. If you're in flats then obviously it would be easy for the smell to come through.

Having previously smoked pot I can tell you that there is a product called Ozium that is very good for eliminating the odour and it is relatively cheap too. You may need to wash the walls as well and some Febreeze on the carpet wouldn't hurt but Ozium can kill the marijuana smell in a room where somebody is actively smoking weed.

With Ozium you have to shop around. As it is an American product, some stores charge rip off fees, but it can be bought for less than £4.

You have just reminded me of a time a few years ago when I kept thinking I could smell it on our landing. I was convinced it was our student neighbours and was livid. Turns out it was a strange smell coming from our new washer dryer. It's a long shot but any chance it's something like that? Otherwise, try environmental health perhaps.

If it's a housing association property or local authority, i know where i live the local council will evict those who use or deal drugs from their properties, i would report the use of drugs to the council and hopefully they will get rid of the cause for you.

definatley the neighbours - we had the same problem last year but over the winter the botys went and lived elsewhere for a bit so obviously the smell went.

Its a association house, but as mentioned, we had same problem last year and the Housing officer didnt do anything about it.

Will see if i can have a chat with the kids about it without parents around.

if its that bad you should open a burger stall in your front garden, i bet you would make a fortune, the munchies are a powerfull force! maybe selling king size rizla would be worth considering as well, it could always be worse though, they could be alcoholics!

I'd like to think this would be the case, but our council couldn't give a sh*t.

We're in a block of council flats and the tenants in the flats on the top landing regularly converge in the stairwell for a chinwag and a joint. The smell coming into our flat is appalling and the kids keep asking what it is.

The council know it goes on, I've told them often enough. They're not willing to do anything without police involvement. The police said it's a matter for the council.

I would . . . but being 6 weeks pregnant the smell of greasy burgers makes me vomit lol

I like your thinking though! :p

Call the police, and tell them you think they are dealing when having their chin wag. Definitely cannabis (because of the smell) but also pouches of white powder, whatever that is. And they've been selling illegal firearms to terrorists. (ok, may be not the last part. But you could certainly believe you thought you saw them handing drugs to friends on the landing in exchange for money. Suddenly it becomes a bit more serious for the police)

and if "just plain jane" has neighbours like mine, the last thing you want to do is upset them.

I've managed to speak to one of the boys, he said that they didnt realise it was coming through the walls and they will smoke outside . . . . . will wait and see

There's an irony in what you just said. There's CCTV in the building, including the landing where they smoke. If I accused them of dealing, the police could request the footage and see that I was lying BUT the council can't spare the manpower to look through the tapes to catch them smoking a bit of weed. It's just not that high on their agenda. Can't win.
