I been toying with getting one of these for years, but they been a bit pricey in the past the battery operated/main ones.
The poor kids on hols 6 weeks ago have made one think about getting one.
The thing is we are hoping to move soon, I do have several smoke detectors in house, but the new property from what I can tell is mainly central heating and boiler (Gas combi 3 years old) is in a intregal garage outside, separated by kitchen door on to what would have been a driveway. The only fire that they have is a coal/log fire. Should I still get one seen then on Ebay for £11 for a one that looks like a smoke detector type look and more for the type that Boots sell for around £25.

My brother just brought 2 for our house and Im sure he said they were only about a fiver for the pair from Wickes. Theyre the cards that turn black if there is any danger0

Thanks yes the cards ones are cheap but I gather they only last a year. We dont have Wickes only B&Q unfortunately. Thanks anyway0

We have a battery opperated fire and Co2 alarm from B&Q it was about £25, small price to pay if its going to save your bacon :-)If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

I was just wondering whether its worth having one in my case due to boiler being outside and we would only have a log fire for living room.0

Probably not worth it if there is no gas in the house is the cooker electric ?If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Argh I forgot about the cooker, I am not sure if its gas or electric come to think of it and its open plan so it opens on to dining room. Might be worth getting one if its gas.0

we switched gas to powergen and in welcome pack got the cards that change dot colour to detect CO levels. Nice freebie. Although I still went and bought a fireangel batt operated one from B&Q as we had a new baby boy. Only cost about 25quid and we took in-laws parents on oap discount night for a bit off. Worth the peice of mind although even with an open fire we havent had it move off 0 and yes it does work properly!!
Would recommend batt ones for piece of mind as you cant see the card dot thingy ones. batt ones you can HEAR!. Is safety something to skimp on, or do you get what you pay for?Sorry but please keep your signature to 4 lines in length - MSE Forum Team 20 -
I dont mind getting one but I didnt want to waste money given that its real fire and boiler is outside. But as I forgot the cooker I am sure its gas it woudl be worth it. Better safe than sorry0

But first, the most asked question:
Q "Is anything worn under your kilt???"
A "No. Everything is in perfect working order Thank You!!."0
