Halifax: trouble getting a tax certificate

I'm in need of a tax certificate as I need to prove my income for the previous tax year.

I wrote to Halifax at the end of the tax year requesting one for all my accounts (which I stapled to a letter requesting something else). They responded to one of the letters, but simply ignored the tax certificate one.

Phoned up around the 20th April to speak about another problem and requested one on the phone. Was told this would arrive after the bank holiday. Guess what? No sign of the statement.

I'm fed up phoning to chase things up everytime, so looks like I'm going to need to use Halifax's complaints procedure yet again to get them to do a relatively simple task

Not a great way to start our "new relationship" since I've just switched my main current account to them.

Anyone else having a similar problem?

If you can call into a branch they can print you something off showing you what tax you paid on your interest for whichever tax year, generally that may be sufficient for what you want. It would not be on an "official" statement but if it is just the figures you need for your own records or accountant then I would have thought that would be enough?

    Hope that helps.

Yes ... but sadly lots of people in branches are fairly hopeless when it comes to this sort of thing and will just try to order a new one to be posted.

If you ask for a Tax Information Request, then they will be able to print what pinkdalek has described on the spot. Contains exactly the same info as a tax certificate.
