I tried selling mobile phones on EBay a few years back and my brief foray into the market convinced me it was an area I wished to trade in.

OP you wish to generate profits of between 30% - 55% (over £2,500/ month) more than your competitors (assuming same margins) and by your own admission you are selling more than they are then you should be hardly surprised when some of your buyers wake up and realise what a numpty they have been.

Think I would be taking it on the chin and not drwing attention to it and the possibility that it will attract more competitors.

OP you really need to look at your listings 15 NPB in a year is way over the top. I have had 2 in the past year selling 200 + items a month including a lot of mobiles. If you don't want to do BIN with immediate payment as Macfly suggested. Sell them UK only with your preferences set for those with less than 5 Feedback to have a credit card registered. That weeds out most scammers.

Another person who seems to think someones time is free....

Where do i say or suggest this?!

When selling on ebay (time) the aim is to have a mark up on your product that covers costs and incorporates some profit (profit). This profit is then used to reimburse a sellers time (wage).

    Time + profit = wage/salary/income/dividend

I sold two mobiles one thy claimed the phone was broken, Ireally thought they were at it. The second one I thought I would try Amazon and that resulted in a chargeback (which to be fair Amazon took on the chin and not me) but that was 100% scam rate. That was enough for me.

The only other items I decided were too much hassle were TVs, although I sold a few with no problems sometimes by the time they reached me the packaging was trashed never mind re-sending to the customer. So I exited that market gracefully.

I tried to sell my Macbook Pro. Boxed as new with all manuals, discs, packaging, just under 11 months old, completely unmarked and priced just a little cheaper by £25 than the rest. I listed it 6 times and every time without fail I had a NPB.

Pray tell Oliver, what should I do in that respect to improve my listing of that Macbook Pro?

    Ah, silly me.
  • Certain categories attract problems. There always seems to be a thread on this forum regarding high price mobiles and laptops and all manner of scams, empty packages, damaged items, swapped inners etc..
Think i'll stick with selling balls of knitting wool to little old ladies :D.
