  • Yes lived next to one for years. Some workers started from 3am, obviously a lot of noise from vans but also general shouting/banter between the staff as they are outside a lot if the time.

    Ours starts at 6.

It's a village post office with a delivery/sorting office behind.

Do people have to go there to collect items of post that weren't delivered for one reason or another? That in itself would put me off. There'll be people up and down like yoyos all Saturday morning. If you're right next door, that could get very annoying - general traffic, the parking, etc. Is there off street parking? Expect people to use your driveway, or at least block it! Failing that, if there's no off street parking, if you needed to come home on a Sat morning and park your car, it could be a nightmare.

If there's no 'collection' there, I'd take above suggestions and visit at busy times (before they open) when the vans are in and out.

I'd also be very worried about it being closed or moved and the land/building turned into something else, maybe an industrial unit of some sort. In fact, if there's no collection there, there's probably no guarantee it wouldn't end up being used for that purpose.

  • I would also recommend getting up there Very early to see how noisy it is then. My old flat was opposite a large sorting office in London and there was a lot of noise.
    Was a 40 a day smoker for 20 years.
Decided to give up, and haven't had a fag for 12 years.
    Halfway through losing six stone.

    Looking forward to early retirement.

didn't even get to go to our viewing booked for tomorrow as they have accepted offer else where
  • Probably a lucky escape. I lived opposite a sorting office for 3 months. The noise from the lorries at 6am wasn't a problem - it was the people who turned up at all hours to post letters through the 'hole in the wall' leaving car door open, radio blaring and engine running that made life miserable. Motorbikes were even worse! I guess these are the same people that do their grocery shopping at 3am too...
