Argos - VAT receipt

I have recently purchased something on the company credit card from Argos.
The goods has been delivered etc, but no VAT invoice.
I emailed them for it, and they said that unless my big boss (who is named on the card) will ask for it they won't send it out?

Now our big boss is not even in the country this week and they just want him to call on generic 0845 number, and he is very busy man as you can imagine - I would rather not ask him to do it as he won't be exactly happy that he has to do it. I mean - it is company card and I want them to send the VAT receipt to the card registered address etc!!

Surely they must provide the company with the invoice? Without such a hassle?

Tell them the big boss has asked [you] for it.

They have to provide a VAT receipt if the customer requests one. Seems like they're confused as to who the 'customer' is. When you placed the order, whose name was it in?

VAT proof is often included on 'company credit card' statements. Is this a Barclaycard Commercial card or similar?

When I get stuff from B&Q for work (often cheaper than builders merchants even with discounts!!), it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a VAT receipt when using a Barclaycard Commercial card, because their systems 'know' that the VAT information appears on the Statement.

I suspect that Agros may be similar.

Companies are not allowed to provide two different VAT proofs for a purchase - which may be why they won't give you one (ie because the credit card statement includes the VAT proof).

Also, was it less than £100? Different rules apply below £100.

On your reciept there should be a VAT reference no. And as most if not all goods sold at argos are subject to VAT you could simply assume that VAT was charged on all of it put the claim amount and the VAT ref no. and 9/10 that will suffice.

P.s. not sure if argos print a VAT reg no though i know b&q do.

    Hi,
no, our company card is NatWest.
The customer is the company. The goods was delivered to the company address and the card is registered to the company address.

They say it is because of "data protection" that they cannot give us an invoice without the boss..

I find that seriously misguided as they are happy to give goods to the address but not the invoice?

    Bunch of numpties.

    We didn't get any receipt!
Just confirmation of order email and delivery note.

But if all else fail, I might do just that and hope HMRC will accept that in case of control.

The famous 'data protection' excuse! :T Companies need to read up on the DPA, they misinterpret it so much...

But anyone can email them or telephone them and say they are the boss.

How can they prove or disprove that it is not the boss?

They will have to issue an invoice to your company at some stage as its a legal requirement for any Ltd company. You could ask that they post one to the business adress adressed to the Managing Director. Alternatively try and return the products without the reciept..... see what they do then....."but you didnt give us a reciept"

It should be on their website and stationery, their VAT number isn't a secret. For the meantime, look for ir on their 'about us' kinda section and scribble it on the card receipt and delivery note.
