IMO, Arden Grange is better than both Skinners and burns. Especially the lamb and rice. I personally think it's about the best mid budget food you can get.
One of my boys is rice intolerant so sadly I no longer feed it.
I feed Simpsons sensitive cereal free. It's £30 per bag, you only get 12kg instead of 15. But I wanted a grain free food with a decent meat content. Can't afford Orijen/Arcana prices. So I went with this.
Arden grange is a good food, personally I think Burns is better, and much as skinners looks like the same mix as burns it isn't. Skinners is a good mid priced food, but personally I have no doubt Burns is a premium pet food.
I personally would also feed Arden grange over Skinners. For cereal free foods also look at Jameswellbeloved's veg and lamb, or veg and ocean fish, both of which are great foods.0 -
Some butchers will give you their offcuts for free if you ask nicely. Not sure there would be enough for food for all week but would make nice change!
Not getting involved in debate as each to their own but don't worry about the heated debate OP, its a good grabbit if you buy Iams!!0 -

Please tell me how Skinners Duck and Rice differed from Burns?
The ingredients are practically identical.
I'm not saying Burns is a bad food. But premium? No, premium foods are Orijen, Arcana etc. Burns is nowhere near as good as them.
I have no issues with burns, just think charging almost £50 for 15kg of dog food that's 60+% rice is rip off.
LOL, I'm not a fan of James Wellbeloved since they were taken over by masterfoods (makers of pedigree, wagg etc).
I'd pick AG over all three of these.

People can become very evangelical about dog food.... It's hourses for courses frankly, so long as you're trying to give your dog the best you can and it's doing well on it, that's what's important IMHO. Rev, I'm not getting into a mindless round of what's the best food, what's a premium, what's a basic or what's just rubbish, it's pointless, you have obviously got very fixed views, so I'm not going to sway you lol.
Burns IMHO is one of the best foods freely available at the mo to pet owners. As is Robbies Holistic, and a number of others Orijen is a great food, though some dogs have issues wth the very high protien levels. Skinners on paper looks very similar, but in my experience which is quite extensive as i sell pet foods, has more issues with end users, it gives in general a much larger output than burns. But as i say it's horses for course, people buy what they can afford and what their dogs do well on, I'd never condone an owner for feeding their dogs on it... I have a limited number of foods i won;t sell, this isn't one of them.
(FWIW, the biggest no no for me in the skinners in the sugar beet pulp, a bulking agent that's a know allergen, I'd rather the higher brown rice content than put that particular ingredient through my own dogs systems, but again that's my personal choice, I might think differently if my dogs didn;t have the underlying health conditions they have).
Picking a dog food is as confusing and personal as feeding yourself or your children, dry is as I'm sure you're aware, as you seem very passionalte about it just one aspect, there's wet foods, home cooked and raw diets also open for consideration.
BTW I sell burns a LOT cheaper than £50 a sack!0 -

I use Robbies mixer for one of my dogs actually. Love it. I love how you can see exactly what's in it.
I don't have fixed views. I look at ingredients and nutritional and go by those. Simple.
But like you said, it's pointless. Horses for courses.
Oh. Re the beet pulp. I think it gets an unfair rep.

See my pair have tried Robbies and barfed for their country lol... as I say the important thing is what's best for a dog. FWIW, I feed burns alert, with a mix of nature diet, and raw, with a load of added vitamins and mineral suppliments... I've had them on orijen, F4D's and a few other kibbles as a staple, never anything wheat based or with beat pulp, or brewers yeast.0

snappied....

How much cheaper? I paid less but I've switched from the maize to the rice version to see if it fills them up more as they always seem to be hungry. Maybe it's just the dog is a pig though!! I paid £40 a sack this time.
I put it in water or scatter it round the garden.0
