If you part own / part rent a property, can you claim housing benefit?

From what I've read on here for the rent part yes, hopefully someone with more knowledge will be able to give you a clearer answer though.Credit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

Yes, you can claim HB on the rental part of the property, and potentially SMI on the mortgaged side also. Your entitlement will depend on your household income.Gone ... or have I?0

Yes you can! Normally these properties are housing association and so the full rent would be used. We don't pay HB for most service charges.I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

They will be able to claim the service charges under the SMI scheme.Gone ... or have I?0 -
It's for my mum. She's retired and apart from her pension, she has no income. But, she would buy the share of the property in cash (no mortgage necessary). She also lives with my sister, who has depression and so she's sort of looking after her. Would she, if she buys a property on the basis of part buy poart rent, be eligible to get the full rent covered?I'm John Stiles, I am.0

Does her sister work or claim benefits? Does mum get pension credits?Gone ... or have I?0

Yep, find out what they claim and then put the details through the benefits calculator (there should be a link at the top of the page). Come back to us if you need any further clarification.Gone ... or have I?0

Yes good idea. But in general, the fact that it's part buy part rent doesn't affect eligibility, is that right? I know someone else said that it's ok but just to be sure.I'm John Stiles, I am.0
