i did correct myself a couple of posts later to say i meant her uncle.
King Edward VIII, later Duke of Windsor? He may well have had some Nazi leanings - he toured Germany with his wife in 1937 or 1938. He was then shunted out to the Bahamas from a post in France in about 1940, because of the prevelant govt. opinion that he had pro-Nazi views. He didn't hold another official post after that, I think....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

From about the time Hitler came to power, he was at a Scottish school, until just before the Second World War started. Not much Hitler Youth at Gordonstoun, I bet.
Ties? His sisters married Germans.
not just germans. signed up members of the nazi party - some very high ranking. from my link.
All four of his sisters married German princes and three - Sophie, Cecile and Margarita - became members of the Nazi party.
Sophia's husband, Prince Christoph of Hesse, became chief of Goering's secret intelligence service and they were frequent guests at Nazi functions.
as for the jewish school founder he had fled nazi persecution by the time philip attended salem so i expect nazi ideas were pretty high on the curriculum. not that that was his fault as such. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
So? That's his sisters. Not him....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

some nazi leanings?? he stated that hitler was a great man.
thank goodness the elected officials of the day had sense to see the failings of the hereditary monarch and do something about it. shame we couldn't have just gone with the voice of the people in the first place rather than having to oust mr birthright. would have saved a lot of expense and botheration. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

true but in a monarchist system connection by birth or marriage is everything since it is this that determines position. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

More historical rubbish - he had abdicated before that, because he wanted to marry an American who two ex husbands....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Not really - what the Queen's husband's sisters did isn't relevant in a hereditary system....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

nothing anyone does is relevant in a hereditary system. that's the problem. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

while he was king edward had a habit of calling the german ambassador directly and threatened to abdicate if hitlers advances into the rhineland were stopped (including telling the german ambassador he had done so).
the divorcee get out was a handy relief methinks.
true he only hobnobbed with hitler after the abdication but if simpson hadn't come on the scene who knows what would have happened. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

I doubt he did much threatenging of abdication, because the British weren't about to make too much of a fuss about the Rhineland anyway. "The Germans are after all only going into their own back garden" as Lord Lothian put it.
I thought the problem the govt had with Edward VIII was more that he paid no attention to national and international matters, rather than anything else....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
