Can I buy Nokia 6131 from T Mobile PAYG + use it as Virgin PAYG?

Sorry to be thick but can I really do this and how? If I use a phone bought from T-Mobile PAYG with a Virgin Mobile PAYG sim card, will it work just as well as if I'd bought it from Virgin (can't as they don't sell that phone)?

T-Mobile supply subsidised phones, locked to their network. So unless you've had it unlocked it will only accept tmobile sims.
You can probably unlock it for free if you do a google search, although be aware that unloking in this way can invalidate the warranty and void any insurance you may have. Hope that helps.Lightbulb moment: Nov 2006September Wins Bestival A>Z CD £10 / Cavalliert Facial £75

Ah well, in that case you could get a tmobile sim card for 50p here

and then port the virgin number across.Lightbulb moment: Nov 2006September Wins Bestival A>Z CD £10 / Cavalliert Facial £75

Thanks Kim and Browntoa. I'll choose a different phone and check first to see if I can get a code to unlock it then.
Thanks again0 -

Generally the network providers (T-mobile in this case) will allow the use of virtual networks (Virgin in this case) sim cards in their phones. This is because Virgin are leasing airtime from T-mobile and therefore they will still make money from this arrangement. Please note it does not work the other way as Virgin would get nothing from a T-mobile customer.
If you can check the phone, i.e. you're purchasing from a shop and you can go in and actually try your sim card in the phone, I think you'll find it works.0
