Check with the pharmacist before taking sudafed or decongestant tabs with anti histamine.

Karvol (childrens cold stuff for putting on pillows). Couple of drops in a mug of hot water then inhale the steam. Works like a dream. My doctor actually said that what I needed to do was to sniff salty water up my nose and spit it out of my mouth. I did tell him I didn't think I would be doing that any time soon.....

    This!

I have tried everything but the neti pot is the best of all and is also all natural.

I got some relief from using massage and breathing techniques. Too chicken to try salt water!

    And thirded.

Yes, the neti pot sounds weird but it will work. I always used to use OTC decongestants, haven't needed any since getting a neti pot. No bounce-back problems either, unlike with decongestants.

    Go and see your GP.

There are a number of different problems that can cause persistent nasal congestion, such as polyps, deviated septum etc, as well as the more usual allergies and inflammation. In each case, a different course of treatment will be required, which may involve prescription medication (i.e. steroid sprays/tablets) or a minor operation.

Nasal congestion can serious disrupt your life, so it's worth getting it looked at professionally.

Thanks to everyone who replied on this, sorry for the delay I have been away.
So i tried the salt/water recipe using a washed-out optrex eye dropper bottle to dispense it.......water was a bit cold & it felt like fire going through me!!!....but it certainly seemed to help.

I do use Olbas oil and often rub some on my chest, around my nose and put a few drops on the pillow.....good job I sleep on my own.

The other thing I tried was one of these air humdifiers, left it on all day & then turned it off when i went to bed......the idea being that it would dampen down any pollen flying around......I woke up next day feeling terrible, aching all over.

I have tried most of the OTC nasal sprays and found the Otrivine one to be the most effective.

I have a recipe that actualy heals:
Add 5 drops of propolis tincture to 10ml of saline water.
    Shake well before every use.
Use it at least 5-6 times daily, in the beginning every half hour.

If you can get a little plastic syringe from a pharmacy, you can lean over the basin, but keep your head upright, pump the saline solution in gently and sniff it up.

Make sure the solution is body temperature for less of a shock.

Doing it this way is easier for starters, as you can control it a bit more and all the water goes in the basin, not all over you! Press one nostril closed and sniff a little up the other nostril gently first until you get used to the experience.

You need to repeat it regularly, so if you find the experience less harrowing, you're more likely to keep going with it!
