Pirelli Cinturato P1 - new tyre from Pirelli
http://www.pirelli.com/tyre/gb/en/car/sheet/cinturato_p1.html
Seems to have the best rolling resistance in it's class:

= better fuel economy. Anyone know if they're available yet?

Yeah, seems to be the only place that has it, other articles say it will be available in the second half of 2011.
Also BMW will be fitting these tyres to their 1-Series cars.0 -
I hope it's not a noisy as the P4s. I switched to Conti Premium Contact 2s last time as the Pirelli was just too loud.0

I've never been a fan of the Pirelli's. The yhave always wore funny on what ever car they have been on and don't seem to last as long as stuff like Michelins.
Conti's are good, but they do wear quick on the shoulders, compared to Mich's.
I will always pick Michelin, Dunlop or Goodyears for my car.0 -

Really? I used to have P4 on my Rover 25 and switched to the same Contis as you and they were not any quieter, and I found the P4s slightly better to drive. Things that affect road noise more than tyres are the road surface and the car (soundproofing and suspension).
And the P1 seems to be one of the quietest in the tests too.0 -
Grip?
All that matters IMO. Safety is everything.0 -

I disagree. Drive within the limits of the tyre and you'll be fine. Even with the most grippy tyre, if you push it too hard you'll screw up.
For everyday driving I think these Pirellis make sense. They are good performers in the dry and not bad in the wet. The Continentals are more expensive.0 -

With this logic, why buy a premium tyre at all? Why not just buy the cheapest 2mm-tread used Chinese ditchfinder you can find, and drive really gingerly?
Answer -- because when you do need to stop you're still going to need that extra grip!!0 -

I had a set of tyres on my 2L 98BHP Capri that were so crap that if I accelerated when coming off a roundabout, they would break loose and I would end up in a powerslide even on a bone dry hot sunny day. Braking distances were horrific with them. I guess you're completely unaware tyres have a large effect on stopping distance, even if you don't lock them up...
I had them on 3 weeks and changed them.0 -

Yes you do get some really crap tyres. Avoid them. The Pirellis aren't crap.0
