No oven, what shall I buy instead?

I am moving into a very tiny studio on Saturday which only has an ikea mini kitchen (two rings/sink/fridge) and a microwave. (non-grill)
I am wondering what the best thing to buy for toast/veggie sausages and other oven/grill type stuff.
Space is really at a premium so I need something that will 'pay its way'. I was thinking either a mini oven (could sit on top of the micro) or maybe a mini george forman. Any ideas?

If you've got a microwave you can prob do without an oven. I'd go for a george forman type grill, you can do toasties on these too.0

I reckon your basic ideas are fine
If you have a place you could stash(dump) the microwave I've heard good reports of MW's with grill and could ask friend who has one what theirs is and what they think of it?
If you have toaster don't forget that you can buy toaster bags from places like Lakeland to do toasties in.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Hi,
I have used a combination oven, microwave and grill for about 15 years due to limited space in my kitchen. Only takes up the space of a microwave. Currently have a Sharp Jet Convection which has extra shelves so that you can cook full roast dinners without any problems.Olympic Bronze Challenge Target £1007

I am also thinking cheap...I imagine grill micros are expensive and landlord doesn't want me to get rid of his (there is literally no room to stash it)
I don't have a toaster as my old cat kept peeing on them (!) so I have just been using a grill at my current flat.
I have seen mini ovens for less than £20. Not sure about george formans.0 -

There are two products on there like mini ovens (look nothing like an oven). One is a convection oven - product No. 551 766 £69.96 and the other is an infrared oven - product No. 823 030 £70. They were demonstrating one the other day (can't remember which) but you can actually bake cakes in these things. They are energy efficient and cook faster. Quite impressed with what I saw.0 -
We had a lidl £20 mini Oven with grill that was really uselful..not quite the same high heat of a standard oven but none the less it worked really well for about 8 months then the control knobs failed..so had to get a refund...If you go for a mini oven/grill get a well known make is my advice...other than that microwave 3 way type are supposed to be really good for small areas...our
mate now he is on his only sadly... uses one for everything and the food is always good. Mrs Happy0 -

I have used a Prima super chef convection roaster oven for about 5years and I never use my main oven. It is probably like the one kathyd mentions. It uses circulating air and therefore uses less energy. I cook bacon sausages chicken fish chips you name it and it is so easy to clean. I got mine from www.prima-international.com not sure how much they are now probably £50ish.0

we have a george and it is amazing what u can cook. even puddings can be done. put slices of apple on it covered in sugar , when they cook the sugar goes really yummy. also wrap a banana in foil and cook then serve with icecream and chocolate buttons. also if u want to cook a chicken fillet in say garlic butter, just wrap it all in the foil first so it doesn't spill everywhere.
once u have a george and start to experiment the list is endless.0 -
Whilst slightly off topic I recently bought a friend this cook book here. It's obviously aimed at students, but the recipes are arranged by what equipment you need to make the meal eg. meals you can make with a toaster, meals you can make with a pan and a microwave etc etc. I would certainly recommend borrowing it from your local library if possible as it is great for opening your eyes to what variety is possible with hardly any equipment.I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0
