We liked Carvoeiro and I would recommend carvoeiro villa holidays (no spaces between the words.com) can't post a link as I am new to posting on the forums. We hired a car at Faro airport, and a villa from the above, had a lovely time exploring that coast, including Albufeira. Took our two teens, who are notoriously hard to please, and they enjoyed themselves too. The villa complex has a pool area. Carvoeiro itself had quite a few bars, some nice restaurants and a lovely beach.

Me and the wife stayed in the Brisa Sol a couple of months ago, couldnt fault it, Central location for the strip/old town. Supermarket a few paces away, fabulous coffee/cake shop next door which is quite cheap as well. Mcdonalds across the road if you like that kind of thing.

The tourist train stops right oustide the hotel as well which has 3 stops, brisal sol - strip - old town, costs 3euro for a day ticket if you dont fancy walking.

In the New Town bit near the 'strip' i can highly reccommend Ouratlantico apartments. They are small, and far enough away from the Strip that you don't heard any noise. The old town is a quieter option though if you don't like loud bard at night as these are all situated where the restaurants are on the Strip so hard to avoid them. Especially in peak season. Later and earlier in the year its not a big deal as they are all practically empty. But July will be heaving on the strip. Forte Da Oura apartments right next door to Ouratlantico are also lovely.

Villa Petra aparthotel is very good and they have 2 bed apartments if required. Good 4 star, clean with nice pool. It's at the top of the strip, far enough away from the activity but close enough to be just a short walk. Not where you wanted to be, but taxi just 4 euros to Old Town, or take the road train. Hourly bus from hotel to beach.
