Albufeira Algarve - Accomadation Help

Hi guys
We are looking at going to Albufeira July 2012 and i'm needing a bit of help planning (ok i know it's early to plan but i'm exited :j). Firstly i've heard there's a big festival in Algarve in July but i'm not sure on the dates, i'd love to be there at this time to take part in the festivities.....
Secondly me and the hubby are in our early 30's and still like a bit of life at night, however i also like the odd quite night, so i thought it might be best stopping inbetween the Old Town and the Strip that way we have the best of both worlds. So far i've only found Brisa Sol which doesn't look too bad, but has anyone got any accomadation ideas ??
Would be happy with Half Board (providing food good ) or self catering if food cheap to buy out.
Any Help would be great and least then i know what to budget for !!

hi I have been to albufeira a few times, just come back last week as it happens! have stayed in Bellavista area which is good spot to walk along to strip or down to old town - about 15 mins both direction. In Bellavista area (Swatch roundabout) we stayed in a private complex (2 years running) which i would highly recommend we had the pool to ourselves most of the day. The apt we had is no longer avail but if there is only the two of you there is this one in the same complex http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/albufeira/31417.
Last week we stayed at Encosta da Orada which is well placed for old town but not for Strip. Cheap enough for self catering and if you stay at the complex above it is handy for two supermarkets Pingo Doce and Modelo.
We have used both Owners Direct and Algarve Getaways without any problem.
If you want any further info please pm me

We've just got back from our first trip to the Algarve. To be honest it's not the type of resort we'd usually choose, but we weren't planning a holiday and only went because we stumbled across what seemed an amazing price for really nice 4* almost-new, very modern accommodation. It was £150 between the 2 of us, for one week. Ryanair flights bumped the total cost up to £300 between us for flights and accomomdation, including having paid for extra baggage.
We booked to stay at the Areias Village, it's only 18months old and you can see from the pics on the website how fresh and new everything is:

Having read the rave reviews on Tripadvisor, we weren't disappointed. You mentioned you'd like to be between the strip and the old town. That is just where this accommodation is. It's 3/4 mins walk from the strip (only around the corner) and right near the beach. It's also at the 'old town end' of the strip so only takes about 20 mins to walk to the old town (although tbh we only ended up doing this once, we were very lazy and used the tourist train mostly which was I think around 3 euro for a day pass, less for a single trip, and took maybe 10 mins).
Can't say I'd really recommend the resort, we knew it wasn't our usual type of area we'd choose, but we had planned to stay mostly in the hotel sunbathing.
If you do go, I can't recommend enough the QuadVentura quad biking. Full info on Tripadvisor, it's the no. 1 rated activity on there for Albufeira, really great fun.

It's been a while since I worked in Portugal, but Sao Joao in Albufeira might suit you. As I say, it's been a good few years and it might be very different now, but might be worth a look. It was lively, but not too much so, if I remember rightly. We also had properties in Montechoro, though I can't recall it so well now!
I'm sure there will be people who have far more recent experience than me.
Hope you find somewhere lovely, and be sure to check out the chicken piri-piri! :-)From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0 -
We used to go to the Algarve every year for the last 15, but a few years ago stopped going because of the high cost of everything. Honest, I seemed to be visiting the cash point every day. The locals seem to really resent us, (seeing we own them now, hard to fathom), Albufeira is so expensive now, we go to Tenerife instead. But as mentioned above Sao Joao is the most convenient part for being between the strip and the old town, and what a relief to see they have installed escalators at cardiac hill.:TThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

Poppyred, the Brisa Sol is in a pretty good spot (just booked myself there for later in the year).
Close by you have Vila Gale (towards Old Town) and Paraiso the other way. Paraiso is a great big hotel with great facilities, but can be more expensive, especially high season.
Good beach hotels near the strip are, Clube Praia da Oura (CPO), Aqua Pedro dos Bicos (hotel) and Quinta Pedro dos Bicos (apartments). Aqua Pedro does fantastic breakfasts, but can be pricey for h/b.
We also looked at the Areias Village to try out and that aslo is in a good spot and is nearer the Old Town than the above beach hotels, also it's pretty new.
Lots more hotels about, good ones as well.
Brisa Sol as mentioned above is very close to the large supermarkets, Modelo and Pingo Doce (over the road). Pingo Doce has a "restaurant/supermarket cafe" which has very silly cheap prices. The pizzas there are great and can be taken away - freshly cooked to order. If you eat in there (and we have), bottles of wine, beer etc. are virtually at supermarket prices (a nice touch). Great salad bar there as well. Just remember this is like an Asda/Tesco supermarket style cafe.............just miles and miles better.
Upstairs in the same complex above Pingo Doce is a local restaurant/bar which is a great find (an expat told us about it) and does nice piri piri chicken at "local prices". *I'll post the name later when I find it. **Also I'll post the name of a family restaurant who does fantastic 3 course meals, plus covers and drinks for a fabulous price of only 6.50 euros (may have to book up in high season though).
I would recommend s/c or b/b as there are some great (and cheap) places to eat, especially when avoiding the "tourist places".
* O Jorge (bustling at busy times with locals).
** Il Cappuccino (embarrassing prices - always tip well).

Have a look at Alvor, Caroveiro and Lagos as well.ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0

Caroveiro - bit smaller and quite but still plenty to see and do. Major supermarket just down the road so makes it quite cheap for self catering0
