Fiat 500 - your opinion?

  • I have a fiat 500 pop 1.2 bought in May last year. It has been super reliable and really good on fuel. The stop start system can be a bit tempramental however. It is a really nippy little car and has a city button which makes it easier to park in tight spaces and whizz through double parking (it makes the steering wheel move really loosely so you can make more minor adjustments). Its acceleration on the motorway can be a bit slow but the drive is still smooth, though you can tell when your on different road services. I went with the pop 1.2 as it made a massive difference on my insurance, which was about the same price as on my old banger of a corsa that I let go under the scrappage scheme. I got the blue and me system, however the microphones on it can make calls quite difficult to hear the other end. I am getting it replaced under warranty. I really use the blue and me system and was glad I needed it as that way I could upgrade the steering wheel to leather, personally I think the plastic wheel you get on the pop as standard is really ugly!

I justify the cost of mine as I use it for work and plan to keep it a very long time. I am not sure if I would have spent so much as a student though, and the prices keep going up as it is so popular. You can get more tips and info here: http://www.fiatforum.com/500/

I've test driven a 500 and a KA and like them both, I have pretty much ruled out the KA as I found the rounded central column bit uncomfortable on my left knee (and not really much of a step to put my foot on) and the radio felt like it was a mile away from my extended arm without leaning forward alot, so basically ergonomics let it down for me.

I've had my heart set on a 500 for ages but I'm still trying out other cars. There are a couple of niggles for me in the 500 that potentially spoiled it for me - one being the positioning of the height adjusting leaver on the driver seat being almost next to the handbreak, I worry I'll end up catching my hand / thumb in it - has this been a problem for anyone?
I'd also like to know whether the ivory interiour colouring is likely to become a bit grubby looking over time?

What dealer are you talking to? You can practically have what colour you like! As for the handbrake issue, as with all strange cars, it si something you would get use to.

My friend, who is a millionaire, has one as he uses it to park in the city centre.

He says it's the best thing he ever bought. He has previously had a Porsche Carrera and a BMW X5.

I know there is a the black option, that's probably what I'll end up getting. I quite liked the ivory colour though and wondered about how practical it is :rotfl: (also the seat colour I liked only comes in blue/ivory for some reason).
