iPhone3 unlocked by O2 but when I put normal sim it shows "invalid sim"

My iphone3 was on contract with o2. Last month I asked o2 to unlock it for me so I can use this iphone with other network simcard. However when they sent me message that the iphone has been unlocked, I tried to put vodaphone, t-mobile, virgin, 3, simcards in it but it still shows "invalid sim". What should I do to fix it? I cannot call o2 now because the contract was ended last month.

Have you updated it with iTunes?
That's how the unlock is done, the message from O2 was just to say that the operation had been done at there end, but the unlock is performed through iTunes. . .0 -
Hi,
you need to plug your phone into Itunes and it will say it's receieved a update and will unlock.
good luck:j0 -
Yup, what they said.
Plug it into iTunes while there's another network SIM in the handset, make sure you're logged in with the account you initially activated the iPhone with and do a sync and you'll get a message saying the handset has been unlocked.0 -
I am not sure if I did something wrong or not. I got this message from o2 last month.
"Your iphone can now be unlocked. To use a non-o2 sim card in your phone swap it with your existing o2 sim connect to iTunes and sync as usual"
I synced my iphone with itunes before but nothing happened. It synced as usual without any update or warning. However after reading you guys reply, I connected my iphone with T-mobile simcard today. It shows something like" You haven't put simcard into your iphone, please put sim card and connect again". However when I re-connect it there is no such message again and I can sync my iphone as usual but still no update. What should I do now0 -
I did my wife's with no sim card in the phone. You might want to give that a try??0
