As Iceland had to pay for the Icelandic banks. Scotland would have to cover the Scottish Banks which would have been re-registered under them. Could you imagine that that Scotland alone could handle the debts of Royal Bank of Scotland or HBOS?
Nicola Sturgeon was asked that very question on the news this morning - her answer was "yes" but she didn't elaborate on that.0 -
As per post 33 perchance?
:p;)
My historical outrage was such that I didn't read the rest of the thread before posting....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I concede, History was not one of my favourite subjects.
I know of course it is with you and as I recall, you had a facination with the black plague era
That said, was it worth being "outraged" about?:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.

I'm sure NDG can confirm but I suspect that tongue was firmly in cheek.0 -
Evening all, what did I miss?
Let me guess, the English want the Scots to leave, the Scots want to take the oil money with them, and everyone argues about who should pay for the banks?“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

What did you miss? Nothing much. Scotland is now independent, Rab C Nesbitt has been elected as president and will rule the country from balmoral (he will siphon off all the oil revenue into swiss bank accounts in his name) and all discussions about aberdeen's house prices must now be held on the "pets" subsection of the relationships board.0 -
Rab C, my hero! Will he get a new suit now?
Quote of the millennium from Rab C:
"We're no' friends, we just shag a lot"0 -

I might not have been entirely serious about actual outrage!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
IIRC the figures are about 33% want independance and 43% do not.
At the moment. I suspect these figures will change over the next 4/5 years depending on A) How crap things get with the cuts and everything andHow much 'blame' is placed on the current UK government.
Bear in mind the next Scottish general election has been delayed for a year to get the next UK one out of the way so they don't clash. So a lot will depend on who 'gets in' next time UK wise. As we all know, (especially for the lib dems ), a year is a long time in politics.. I wouldn't expect todays figures to be relevant 4 or 5 years from now.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0
