I don''t know if people are aware, but it's possible to make (at least small) modifications to PDFs, using an extension to OpenOffice. With the extension installed, you run Draw, and then open the PDF. I've used this successfully for minimal alterations, which was all I needed.
I am pleased to see that there seems to be a similar extension available for LibreOffice. I haven't tried it yet. (I've downloaded, but not yet installed LO), but it's good to know it's there.

The main difference between LO & OO is that LO has attracted several thousand contributors. They took all the code for OO 3.5 when they left to set up LO, leaving OO to start redeveloping from 3.4 code (well, the 2 remaining employees that is).
Yes, LO has been incorporated under German Law, so it will always remain open source.Never Knowingly Understood.

My old laptop, which I use for a very small business, died. I did manage to save, onto a pendrive, my income and expenses along with my invoices which were done in MS Office. My new laptop (Windows 8) won't 'read' these so, I need to download a program that will. I'm not very good with computers and am baffled by the previous posts. Can anyone please help me by suggesting on of the free downloads which will work alongside my saved work. Many thanks.0

I'm confused: the Windows 8 bit should have no bearing on the problem - it is MS Office that reads the files. Are you saying that you can't read the pendrive at all i.e. you just can't see the files? Or is it that your new machine doesn't have MS Office?
If the files were written using Word (text documents) or Excel (a spreadsheet) then LibreOffice, which is free, should do exactly the same job as MS Office did - no need whatsoever to buy Office.
What is the files extension after the names of the files? .doc, docx, xls, xlsx?4kWp, Panels: 16 Hyundai HIS250MG, Inverter: SMA Sunny Boy 4000TLLocation: Bedford, Roof: South East facing, 20 degree pitch20kWh Pylontech US5000 batteries, Lux AC inverter,Skoda Enyaq iV80, TADO Central Heating control0 -

To open any file you need software that can read it. For documents written in MS Office try any of the free software previously recommended; LibreOffice, OpenOffice etc.0 -
Sorry for being vague.
The new laptop doesn't have MS office on it, I think my daughter (who is no longer at home) installed it, on my previous laptop, from a disc she had which allowed 5 installations, or something like that. So, the things were written in MS Word/excel and now I need something to read them. Will any free program do this, the Excel I saved says XLS File and the invoices DOC file.
edit:
Oh, I've managed it!! I can now read all my saved info. Thank you so much for your help guys.0 -
